Survivor: Winners At War Finale Recap: A Winner Is Crowned

It’s done. Survivor is now on the other side of 40 seasons, as “Winners at War” drew to a conclusion following Wednesday night’s three-hour Finale. There was no Reunion Show due to the pandemic. There was no screaming crowd, no familiar faces of past players out in the studio audience. Thankfully, there was no Sia.

What we did get was wall-to-wall excitement, as not a minute was spared during the entire three-hours. Jeff Probst was not joking when he said there was a lot of story left to be told, and now that it’s over, we have ourselves another two-time Sole Survivor – finally – who can sit alongside the only other two-time winner (and one time quitter), Sandra Diaz-Twine. There is so much to discuss, so much emotion flowing through my veins, and a glimmer of hope – coming at the very end in a message from Probst’s garage – that has me finally looking forward to something towards the end of this wretched year.

Strap in, we’re going to break it all down, and I’m not going to leave even one thought unexplored this time around, as this may be the very last Survivor Recap for a while, at least a few months. I plan on milking it. Survivor has been a powerful medicine during these trying times, and it sucks, plainly, knowing that at least for now, Survivor is over. And at the very least, the sadness is just starting to sink in that this was definitely the last chapter in the Survivor-lives of many of our favorite players, who rode off into the sunset tonight in epic fashion, never to be seen in this game again. Let’s ride.

As I do at the beginning of every recap, please heed the following: Remember that this recap assumes that you have already seen this week’s episode of Survivor: Winners at War. If you have not and don’t want to be spoiled, please come back later! It’s important to add that while we WILL hit on all of the important developments of the episode, this is not a linear “blow-by-blow” recap. It is more of a discussion and reaction of what we just witnessed together.

Survivor: Island Of The Idols Finale And Reunion Show Recap: When It Rains It Pours

For the first time, the Season Finale of Survivor was not followed by a “Live” Reunion Show, and instead was pre-taped four hours earlier. The reasons for this were clear for anyone who has been following Season 39, “The Island of the Idols,” as this has been – by far – the most controversial season in the show’s nearly 20 year history. In a way that seemed fitting for this season, the Finale was almost preempted and overshadowed by outside news much bigger than the game, but it did air as scheduled, bringing this tough season to a close.

In true Survivor fashion, the negatives of this season were looked at as learning moments for us all, and Jeff Probst did his damnedest to turn this season’s problems into a positive. But despite all of the controversies – and potential lawsuits – swirling around this season, there was still some game to be played, and for the sake of those innocent players who didn’t sign up for all of this mess and who would rather not let the controversies define them, let us talk game, shall we?

As I do at the beginning of every recap, please heed the following: Remember that this recap assumes that you have already seen this week’s episode of Survivor: Island of the Idols. Big Brother 21 Finale Recap: Controversy Clouds The Night

Perhaps it’s fitting that this season of Big Brother ended the way it started: With controversy. Even Nicole (America’s Favorite Player y’all!) had asked for things to come full-circle during tonight’s Finale Episode at one point, and boy did they ever. But a terribly mismanaged Finale ended up sucking all the wind out of what is normally a celebratory and fun finish to everybody’s favorite Summertime guilty pleasure.

Remember that this recap assumes that you are caught up on all of the aired episodes of Big Brother 21. If you are not and don’t want to be spoiled, please come back later! Big Brother 21 Week 12 Recap: The Final Three Are Set…Who Will Win Big Brother 21?

It’s no cliché to say that people go crazy and make irrational decisions inside the Big Brother House…it’s a fact. From the comfort of our couches at home, it’s easy to pass judgment on the decisions that the house guests make or don’t make over the course of the Summer, as they have no contact whatsoever with the outside world. When you’re living in the Big Brother House, up can sometimes appear to be down, and right can disguise itself as left. That’s exactly what happened this past week on Big Brother, as we near towards the Season 21 Finale next Wednesday night, now less than one week away.

I’ll try to avoid spoilers above the warning label, but as I do at the beginning of every one of my Survivor recaps, please heed the following: Remember that this recap assumes that you are caught up on all of the aired episodes of Big Brother 21. If you are not and don’t want to be spoiled, please come back later! Exclusive Survivor: Edge of Extinction Interviews With the Final 3 and Reem

When asked by CBS as to who I wanted to interview at season’s end, the real answer was: Everyone. In a “normal” season of Survivor, I would interview each and every contestant, week-by-week, as they were voted out of the game. But when CBS introduced the theme and twist of Survivor: Edge of Extinction, the format did not lend itself to those traditional weekly exit interviews. So needless to say, there is a lot to discuss now that we’ve reached the end.

Just in case you missed it or are not caught up, please take a read through my passionate (and sometimes angry) response to last night’s Season 38 Finale Recap.

Survivor: Edge of Extinction Finale And Live Reunion Recap: It All Comes Down To…This?

There are no words. No words to describe the – disgust? – that I’m feeling right now towards Survivor. But oh, words will come. Lots of them.

I will try to get through and formulate my thoughts on what looks on the surface to be a clear “jump the shark” moment for my favorite show. By all accounts, up until tonight, Survivor: Edge of Extinction was a good, if not great, edition of the best Reality TV Competition Show on the planet. But it wasn’t able to stick the landing. And in fact, not only was tonight’s ending shocking and controversial, but it may have caused permanent damage to the show’s legacy.

As I do at the beginning of every recap, please heed the following. Remember that this recap assumes that you have already seen this week’s Finale Episode of Survivor: Edge of Extinction. If you have not and don’t want to be spoiled, please come back later! It’s important to add that while we WILL hit on all of the important developments of the episode, this is not a linear “blow-by-blow” recap. Exclusive Survivor: David vs. Goliath Interviews with the Winner and Final Six

Season 37 of Survivor is now officially in the books. It was a great finish to a great season. Heading into the night, the game was wide open. Davie, Nick, Mike, Angelina, Alison and Kara all vied for the million dollar prize and title of Sole Survivor. To say the finish was epic would be an understatement.

Survivor: David vs. Goliath Finale and Reunion Show Recap: And The Winner Is…

Just like John “The Mayor of Slam-Town” Hennigan told us from the jury tonight: It’s not necessarily how well you fought, it’s sometimes about that big, memorable finish. As one of the most universally beloved seasons of one of the most popular reality competition shows draws to a close, people were asking: Will the finale episode of Survivor: David vs. Goliath live up to the rest of the season? In other words, will the finish be as good as the fight?

Anyone watching tonight’s Survivor Finale and Live Reunion Show that followed knows that we were treated with something special this season. The ending did not disappoint. 37 (!) seasons now in the books, and this show is still firing on all cylinders. This is based on the strength of its cast and on the producer’s willingness to evolve. Not every new twist works, but when you match a great cast with a great theme, sometimes sparks fly. Or in Kara‘s case tonight, sometimes they don’t.

Before we dive in, as I do at the beginning of every Recap, please heed the following: Remember that this recap assumes that you have already seen this week’s Survivor: David vs. Goliath Finale. So if you have not and don’t want to be spoiled, please come back later! It’s important to add too that while we WILL hit on all of the important developments of the episode.
