When Leah McSweeney was introduced as the new cast member of Real Housewives of New York, she described herself as a bit of a misfit. The out of place rebel in a prestigious New York City catholic school. Now that she is mixing with the post-menopausal ladies of the upper east and west sides, you’d think she was in the same predicament.
The reaction of the rest of the cast, besides the ever juvenile Tinsley Mortimer, was of shock and disdain at Leah’s array of tattoos. The most offending one being a tramp stamp of her name. Dorinda Medley and Ramona Singer were internalizing this revelation just before Leah arrived for the Hamptons sleep over. Leah received a warm welcome, and then some off-hand remarks. She and Dorinda got into it before leaving the house for dinner. This situation could have escalated further had Leah not responded to Dorinda the way she did.
The inclusion of Leah McSweeney into Real Housewives Of New York is creating a cultural divide between generations. Here we have Leah, a millennial on the cusp of also being a Gen Xer. Someone, ahem, my age. Then we have the rest of the ‘girls.’ Still calling themselves “girls” well (WELL) past the acceptable age of being called so. Which is something only middle-aged women of a certain generation do. These girls are actually OKBoomers, and these boomers are treating Leah and Tinsley Mortimer like their willful daughters who don’t recognize good sense.
The problem is, of course, that Tinsley and Leah are grown-ass women, well-past the acceptable age of being called “girls” themselves. Although Tinsley has clung vehemently to the pretensions of her mother’s generation and, on the surface, tries to adhere to the notions of how one behaves. Leah is more like “fuck it all.” She’s Bethenny Frankel-lite, which is why she’s shaping up to be a good replacement.
I am so happy that Real Housewives of New York returns this week! So, what can we expect? Bethenny Frankel is out, and Leah McSweeney is in with her very own apple.
Luann de Lesseps is back to drinking responsibly (we all hope.) And I am positive that there will be lots and lots of cabaret. But does the tension between Ramona Singer and Dorinda Medley continue after last season’s Angel Ball disaster?
Back in August, Real Housewives of New York’s Bethenny Frankel shocked us all when she announced that she was leaving the show ahead of Season 12. Why Bethenny? Why?
She is in a happy relationship with Paul Bernon, who is very private and probably doesn’t want to add appearing on a reality show to his resume. There is some hope for the future, since Bethenny left the show before and then later triumphantly returned.
Real Housewives of New York star Dorinda Medley has made some big changes in her life. Dorinda changed her living arrangement and moved to a new three-bedroom pad in Manhattan. The new apartment has plenty of room for all of Dorinda’s holiday decorations. I love that Dorinda is a holiday decoration hoarder!
Long-time boyfriend John Mahdessian had visions of moving in with Dorinda in her new place. But Dorinda didn’t invite him. Can he at least get a drawer? After all, John is the dry cleaner to the rich and famous. His family’s dry-cleaning business, Madame Paulette, is well-known for their ability to clean couture clothing. Dorinda should have shouted out the name of John’s business when she
heckled gave a shout-out to “Jovani” during Luann’s cabaret debut.
New York Fashion Week was the place to be for reality TV star sightings. Tinsley Mortimer returned to the runway as a model. Real Houswives of New York stars Sonja Morgan, Ramona Singer, Luann de Lesseps, and Dorinda Medley were on hand to support. Sonja even hosted a fashion show of her own.
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills OG Kyle Richards had her first fashion week show. Erika Jayne, Dorit Kemsley, Lisa Rinna, and Denise Richards had a great time walking in Kyle’s show. On the other hand, Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave was not happy about her reception at fashion week. She admitted that she cried in response to the criticism about her walk, which is odd since she didn’t cry when Kyle made fun of it on RHOBH last season.
During last season of Real Housewives of New York, Dorinda Medley made some big changes. At the reunion, she finally mended her relationship with cabaret star Luann de Lesseps. However, Dorinda wasn’t as kind to RHONY newbie Barbara Kavovit. She compared Barbara to a turnip sitting in a fruit basket. Wow.
Dorinda also moved to a new three-bedroom apartment in Manhattan. And while long-time boyfriend John Mahdessian would love to move in, Dorinda isn’t exactly putting out a welcome mat.
Remember when it was all “about Tom?” I kind of miss that. Because these days, it’s all about Bethenny Frankel. First, to the shock of fans and, apparently, cast mates, she announced her departure from the Real Housewives of New York.
Then, she broke Twitter with her announcement that she “is the only one that is actually married,” causing endless speculation that she secretly married her current boyfriend, Paul Bernon. She also tagged all of her castmates in her announcement. Reminder: all of her castmates are single and desperate not to be single. Well, all except Dorinda Medly, She wouldn’t marry boyfriend John Mahdessian and for all the free dry cleaning and Christmas décor in the world.
