The night before her return to the big stage, NeNe shared on Instagram, “The spotlight will be on me TOMORROW nite as I take this stage! You know life has a way of knocking you down but God believed in me when so many didn’t! No matter what you have been thru your dreams can come true! This is my second time on BROADWAY! #gettingbacktome #chicago #neneismamamorton”
NeNe will play Mama in Chicago through December 20, 2015. She previously said her services were requested through January, but she said no, “I couldn’t do it. When you do Broadway, you really cannot do anything else. You have to clean your schedule, and the moment that you clean your schedule, that is when everybody calls.” Check out pics of NeNe‘s first night in Chicago below.
“I love Broadway,” gushed NeNe. “This time last year, I was on Cinderella, and now I’m on Chicago as Mama Morton. I have two songs. I’m doing a solo and a duet, so I am trying to stay well. I love Broadway. The schedule is tough – it’s a very tough schedule – but I love it.”
NeNe went on to say that Broadway wanted more NeNe than NeNe was willing to give them. Because, you know, it wouldn’t be fair to deprive everyone else who wants a piece of NeNe for more than four weeks at a time. “Originally they wanted me to do it until January,” she claimed. “I couldn’t do it. When you do Broadway, you really can’t do anything else. You have to clean your schedule, and the moment that you clean your schedule, that is when everybody calls.”
NeNe Leakes is gearing up to start her second Broadway turn next week in “Chicago,” playing Matron “Mama” Morton. Since she’s in NYC, rehearsing for her new gig, she stopped by The View this morning to dish on everything from marriage to Gregg, starring on Broadway and being grateful for The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
The ladies bring up the fact that NeNeremarriedGregg and she says that love is definitely better the second time around. She says she loves having a husband, “I love companionship, love being married.” When Joy asks why they split to begin with, NeNe evades answering with specifics and just says she “had to teach him lesson – never to cross me.”
NeNe shared the news in an instagram post. “I’m so excited to say I am headed back to BROADWAY in CHICAGO as Matron Mama Morton!” NeNe shared in an instagram post. “#neneismama #doingwhatilove #broadwaybaby #movingbacktonewyork I will be singing.”
Last night NeNe Leakes ended her run in Broadway’s Cinderella, as the show officially closed.
NeNe did an emotional farewell bow as she wrapped her performance as Madame. “MY FINAL BOW: What a bitter sweet moment it was! I will be forever grateful for such an amazing opportunity!” the Real Housewives Of Atlanta star wrote.
In the audience to watch NeNe’s final performance was her husband Gregg, and both her sons Brentt and Bryson. “As I took my final bow, my amazing hubby, children, friends and family cheered me on as they knew the journey, the hard work, and tenacity it took for me to get here,” NeNe shared.
Cynthia Bailey and NeNe Leakes are officially on the outs, after a confrontation on this week’s episode Cynthia admits that while she hasn’t given up on her friendship with NeNe, it will never be the same.
“I don’t foresee us being BFF’s again. But I would love to see Nene and I in a place where we’re cordial and we have respect for each other and we can have a good time together,” the Real Housewives Of Atlanta star admits. “I miss having fun with her. But we’re not at that place yet.”
Last night NeNe made her Broadway debut in the role of Madame, the wicked stepmother and Housewives (both old and new) along with actual celebs came out to watch! There weren’t any Real Housewives Of Atlanta stars in the audience, but I can imagine we’ll at least see her new very best friendPhaedra Parks attending a show before NeNe’s run ends on January 3rd.
