The web of fraud allegations surrounding Jen Shah is leading up to the wildest second season of the Real Housewives of all time. Truly, Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is coming in hot, especially with a major legal battle right off the bat. Jen’s being accused of being a mastermind behind a longtime telemarketing scheme that targeted elderly folks. Yeah, it’s as bad as it sounds. She and her sidekick Stuart Smith are accused of committing fraud for years as part of the scheme and could face 30 years in prison. Yet, based on Jen’s social media, she’s “unarrested” and unbothered, seemingly believing she’ll somehow find a way to weasel her way out of this.
Jen’s been doubling down that she’s innocent, asking the court to just dismiss this whole inconvenience to her. She’s still surrounded by her Squad but lost the ability to pretend to live the good life in her rented Shah Chalet. And nearly everyone is in the belief that Jen’s pretty delusional for going onto RHOSLC in the first place if she was involved in such a fraudulent business. Well, everyone except Heather Gay, who’s the most loyal friend of all time for no good reason considering Jen’s constant abuse. And to think Jen’s feud with Mary Cosby caused her to have a total meltdown. I can’t imagine the explosion that ensued after she was arrested on camera.
I don’t know how we got to the point where Real Housewives fans went from casual viewers to self-taught law students, but here we are. The bulk of it started with the twisted web of a sham divorce and embezzlement allegations swirling around Erika Jayne this season on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Then, Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Jen Shah was arrested (or if you ask her, #unarrested) for her alleged role in a fraud and telemarketing scheme that targeted the elderly. Meanwhile, there have been plenty of lawsuits, shady business deals, and countless unpaid back taxes in the Bravoverse that make me wonder why I did pull an Elle Woods in the first place.
Jen’s legal drama is sure to be the center of Season 2 of RHOSLC. She got tipped off about her arrest and while the Bravo cameras were rolling. And fans were forced to take off the rose-colored glasses that Jen’s alleged bad behavior might extend beyond her adult temper tantrums. The Shah Chalet was revealed to be a facade, much like Jen’s supposed millions. And it begs the question of how many members of the Shah Squad are sticking by her side. And which ones are running for the hills to avoid being lumped into the federal investigation.
Now that the Real Housewives of Potomac has made its triumphant return to my TV screen, all of my excited energy is going toward the upcoming second season of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. The SLC ladies had an explosive first season with so many iconic moments already, many involving the unique character that is Mary Cosby. Otherwise known as the woman who lives in her closet, is married to her step-grandfather and fell asleep during the Season 1 reunion. Mary’s made more than a few questionable statements in the past, from telling Jen Shah she smells like hospital to tone-deaf statements about poor people. But one thing’s for sure — she’s someone you cannot look away from when she comes on screen.
It’s obvious that Mary and Jen will probably never have a real relationship, especially considering Jen’s fraud allegations that will undoubtedly be a major part of Season 2. But they really seems to be more alike than they are different. They both are the only minorities on the show. They both make pretty stupid statements from time to time. And they’re both so over-the-top in their own unique ways. So it’s a bit of a shame they can’t kiss and make up.
Alright, so we know by now that Bravo is really trying to make spinoffs on Peacock happen and doing anything in their power to get their viewers to subscribe to the streaming service. Summer House Winter Charm, for example. And the Real Housewives All-Stars vacation series mashup, something fans have begged the network for for years, will be behind the NBCUniversal paywall. And in a newly announced project, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills OG Kyle Richards will be showing her acting chops in a surprising new film.
Kyle’s been vocal about her acting career, most of it when she was a child, since day one on RHOBH. She and her sister Kim Richards appeared in several blockbusters back in the day. Even RHOBH editors dug up an old scene from the Little House on the Prairie to include in this week’s episode. And some of Kyle’s solo Hollywood projects, AKA the short-lived sitcom based on her life, have caused plenty of familial problems in the background. But an upcoming new holiday film will likely not piss anyone off with its, let’s say, unique plot.
There’s no better good-time girl in the Bravo universe than Sonja Morgan. I think even Heather Gay would agree with me on that. The Real Housewives of New York star in an OG in her own right. Her legendary townhouse parties. Her celeb-filled yacht soirees. Hey, even when Ramona Singer had 50 of her best girlfriends in a room, Sonja still stole the show. She’s a fun-loving, good-spirited lady just looking for love and someone to buy her Upper East Side townhouse. Is that too much to ask?
Sonja’s current season on RHONY is interesting, to say the least. She’s had a rough year that includes business setbacks and some major shade from her so-called friends Ramona and Luann de Lesseps. She surprised probably everyone by going from talking about multi-cultural fish in the first episode to being the only one to really understand Eboni K. Williams’ point of view on issues about race and microaggressions. And Eboni is returning the favor, swooping in to show Sonjarita some empathy and help her on her quest to find Mr. Right. And I’m living for it.
If 2021 has brought us anything, it’s plenty of drama in the Real Housewives universe. Jen Shah’s arrest. Erika Jayne’s divorce and legal issues. Kelly Dodd and Braunwyn Windham-Burke’s firing. Kathy Hilton. The return of Heather Dubrow. And, arguably the most exciting development, is a Real Housewives All-Stars vacation spinoff with ladies from several cities getting together under one roof in Turks and Caicos to film a special. It’s like Christmas all year long for Bravo fans.
The Peacock spinoff featured a cast full of OGs. We had Teresa Giudice (dripping in macrame) and Melissa Gorga repping the Real Housewives of New Jersey. Cynthia Bailey and Kenya Moore were there for Real Housewives of Atlanta. OGs Ramona Singer and Luann de Lesseps represented Real Housewives of New York. And Kyle Richards went solo from the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
It’s an odd bunch of women. While some are known for their pot-stirring and ability to throw shade (Tre, Twirl and the Ramonacoaster), others were unexpected picks. 50 Cynt hasn’t had a lot going on on RHOA aside from her COVID wedding and raunchy bachelorette party. God knows why MelGo was picked over Dolores Catania, who we all know would rip Ramona a new one. And why did no one from the Mean Girls squad join Kyle from RHOBH? I have so many questions.
Jen Shah was made for
jail reality television. The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City premiered last year and served mountain views with blender co-dependency. We also got some pretty interesting characters, and Jen provided a little bit of everything. She had the paid team of friends, expensive wardrobe, and now fraud charges. Welcome to the world of Real Housewives, Jen darling.
Season 2 of RHOSLC is heavily anticipated as Jen found herself busted by the Feds for conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Her arrest is now content for a storyline and fodder for anyone she’s ever screamed at, which would be most people she knows. Back in April, Jen plead not guilty to the allegations lodged against her and it appears she wants all of the charges dropped as well. While Jen’s smile might be a thin disguise, she is now trying to hide her blurry
Jen Shah was the HBIC on Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. Last season, during a RHOSLC cast trip to Las Vegas, Jen got in Whitney Rose’s face. She also screamed at her most loyal supporter, Heather Gay.
In March of 2021, audio of Jen allegedly verbally attacking her Shah squad and designer Koa Johnson leaked. Jen sent cease and desist letters to the Instagram accounts that leaked the audio.
