Fans have crowned their latest “guy I love to hate” king. And, drum roll please, the honor goes to Real Housewives of Orange County’s Emily Simpson’s husband. Shane Simpson.
One would assume the decision to air your life on reality tv would have been a joint decision between the couples. Yet, we’ve continued to have a few husbands who show up to the party with barely concealed contempt for not only the other women, but even their own wives.
The Real Housewives of Orange County has had more than its share of bad marriages. Viewers have been subjected to uncomfortable scenes of marriages falling apart almost since the beginning of the show. Watching RHOC through the years is enough to make someone not only think twice about marriage, but to consider taking a vow of celibacy!
Who could forget the unhappy union of Donn Gunvalson and Vicki Gunvalson? The ugly fights of Tamra Judge and Simon Barney? Kelly Dodd’s eagerness to shed husband Michael Dodd? More recently, Gina Kirschenheiter’s divorce has played out on the show and in the media like a tragic Lifetime movie. Emily Simpson’s marriage has also been the subject of conversation due to hubby Shane Simpson’s disdainful comments towards her on the show. It seems fair to ask, how does Emily really feel about Shane’s sarcastic comments?
Tamra Judge has not survived 12 seasons of the Real Housewives of Orange County by being the nice girl. Housewife fans know that being agreeable often results in contracts not being renewed. As we have seen over the years, being “nice” is not always second nature to conflict veteran Tamra. We have watched her be shady with Gretchen Rossi, mock Alexis Bellino and throw wine in Jeana Keough’s face. And allegedly running her mouth got Tamra slapped with a million dollar lawsuit courtesy of Jim Bellino.
More recently, Tamra gaslighted Shannon Beador by playing up to her hypochondria following a bizarre mallet gonging by Kelly Dodd. So, where does Tamra’s pot-stirring nature end? For some Housewives, distasteful behavior stops when the cameras are turned off. For Tamra, the lines are a little more blurred.
Gina Kirschenheiter admitted on a recent episode of the Real Housewives of Orange County that she was not very forthcoming about what was really going on in her life last season. She made her divorce out to be a friendly conscious uncoupling ala Gwyneth Paltrow. Since then, of course, we have learned that Gina’s life has been very difficult behind the scenes. Earlier this season, Gina finally admittted that her then-husband Matt Kirschenheiter had been having an affair before their split.
A DUI in February started out a year of Gina being swept up in legal matters. In June, Gina was allegedly the victim of domestic violence by Matt. She took out a restraining order against him later that month. In August, Gina finalized her divorce. She was also awarded primary custody of their three children and $10,000 a month in support. A year like Gina’s would be incredibly difficult for anyone. So, how is she coping with all of this?
Could another baby be in the cards for Tamra Judge?
On Saturday, September 28, the Real Housewives of Orange County star answered questions from fans on social media. One fan asked about the possibility of expanding her family with husband Eddie Judge.
What happens when you are a highly visible celebrity, suffering the humiliation of a demotion? Let’s ask Vicki Gunvalson! The veteran star of Real Housewives of Orange County started Season 14 on a different note. Apparently that note said “have a seat” because the orange was snatched out of her hands.
Just like the little engine that could, Vicki is huffing and puffing up a steep hill. She is desperately trying to prove she is worthy of regaining full time status. That isn’t great news for Kelly Dodd, who is now the target of Vicki’s impetuous jabs. Last year Vicki accused Kelly of being a coke head. This year Vicki has definitely not started a rumor that Kelly enjoys participating in risque acts of a sexual nature. But last time I checked, unless a gerbil or goat is involved, having sex is not a crime. Now Vicki attacks Kelly’s relationship with men, which might earn her a doctorate in Hypocritical Science.
Tamra Judge used to be the “hottest housewife in the OC”. The Real Housewives of Orange County star had that title plucked away by new cast member, Braunwyn Windham-Burke. Braunwyn has approximately 19 children and a waist snatched by Jesus. She’s also younger than any of the Sanka-drinking Tres Abuelas. That leaves plenty of time for her to make mistakes that will eventually lead to multiple years of intensive therapy for her children.
Tamra knows about making mistakes as a mom. She is estranged from oldest daughter, Sidney. After Tamra’s divorce from Simon Barney, her relationship with Sidney all but disintegrated. Per the details of the divorce, the minor children were not allowed to be filmed for RHOC. Because Tamra’s son, Ryan Veith, from a previous marriage was over 18, viewers were already familiar with that branch of her family tree. Now Tamra is reflecting on all of her children, and the errors she has made in the past.
I wonder what was most shocking to Vicki Gunvalson: finding out Brooks Ayers didn’t have cancer or getting the news that she got demoted to a part-time Housewife. Sadly, my instincts tell me that it was probably the latter. Vicki still isn’t over the humiliation of her demotion. And she’s talking about it with anyone who will listen.
During a recent Watch What Happens Live episode, a fan called in to ask, “If you could bring back any other OG Housewife, besides yourself, who would you choose and why?” I love how he had to emphasize “besides yourself” when he asked that question. We all know Vicki’s genuine answer to that question.
