In addition to being the patriarch, godfather, and ultimate supreme ruler of all things Real Housewives, Andy Cohen is a new dad and the host of Bravo’s late night talk show, Watch What Happens Live. As the first openly gay American late night talk show host, Andy has long been an eloquent and gracious advocate for LGBTQ+ rights.
New York City is currently hosting WorldPride, the world’s largest Pride event, spanning the entire month of June. The Bravo network is known for its support of the LGBTQ+ community. So it is no surprise that Bravo and Andy have a float in the parade this year.
*sigh* So many thoughts about last night’s episode of Real Housewives Of New York. SO. MANY. THOUGHTS. And even more questions!
Does Luann de Lesseps deserve the wrath of hungover Housewives? Does air conditioner make Sonja Morgan poof or poop? Does Bethenny Frankel see Luann as her human sounding board – the one person resilient enough to take all the tantrums Bethenny’s mother ignored as she headed out to the clubs or on a date; giving Bethenny free-reign to project all of her childhood emotions.
Also, it occurs to me, that Bethenny probably married her mother and her father in Jason Hoppy, who seems diabolical, but also really disinterested in her melodrama, and Bethenny needs someone to give validity to her hysteria or else she thinks they don’t ‘hear’ her.
The Real Housewives Of New York don’t even have to leave their luxury beach house to have insane, intense, authentic drama. The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills can travel halfway around the world, be in insanely luxe settings, and still can’t make anything interesting occur.
Tonight the Real Housewives Of New York are still terrorizing Miami and if you can believe it they’ve only been there two days real time! After Sonja Morgan got so drunk she needed paramedics, Bethenny Frankel, Ramona Singer, and Luann de Lesseps sit her down to warn her about the perils of alcoholism. Not all alkies wind up being a cabaret star, you know!
The Real Housewives of New York’s Tinsley Mortimer is one of the few Housewives who doesn’t purposely create drama with the other ladies. Sure, Tinsley participates in a little pot stirring when induced by her co-stars, but the drama she creates is usually centered around her own life. Tinsley must not have watched previous episodes before joining the cast three seasons ago–the other women are meant to be the targets-not yourself, Tinsley! Haven’t Ramona Singer or Bethenny Frankel taught you anything?
Tinsley’s self-inflicted drama is usually about her personal life. She has been very open about her desire to start a family, believing her biological time clock is on high alert due to her age. Tinsley is also famous for breaking up and making up with on-again, off-again boyfriend Scott Kluth. Her castmates and advice happy mother Dale Mercer have all told her to move on from Scott and it looks like Tinsley might finally be listening.
This show I tell you. The Real Housewives Of New York ladies know how to do it right. Every episode is like going to an all you can eat buffet.
Only on Real Housewives Of New York can you have a drunken collapse over an argument about cabaret turn into political commentary on the last time Sonja Morgan probably felt relevant. Which flows into competing artists giving out free art and Ramona Singer inviting her ex-husband and new boyfriend to a party, then being forced to admit to making out with her former friend’s ex-husband in front of another friend who also hooked up with this same guy.
Luann de Lesseps has been a lightning rod of controversy this season. If she is not chattering on about her cabaret show on the Real Housewives of New York, Luann is talking about her sobriety. Which is probably natural as she is enthusiastic about her new career–and she claims to be happy about her new found sobriety. As we have seen throughout the season, however, Luann’s co-stars are a bit less enthralled with the Countess’ epic self-absorption, which seems to be her newly discovered superpower.
Sonja Morgan has claimed Luann treats her co-stars like fans. Tinsley Mortimer says she has never seen Luann as arrogant as she has been recently. And Dorinda Medley has called Luann blatantly rude. During the ladies’ trip to Luann’s new round house in upstate New York, she was confronted about her me-me-me attitude and endless talk of cabaret. And all things Luann. Which makes you wonder how she really feels about her houseguests calling her out on her behavior in her own home.
In a world full of eccentric Housewives, the Real Housewives of New York’s Sonja Morgan would be at the top of the unconventional list for her oddities. From living in a crumbling townhouse to “accidentally” flashing the audience at Luann de Lesseps’ cabaret show, Sonja is an idiosyncratic character who prides herself on her peculiarities. Nothing appears to be off the table for Lady Morgan.
Always the clown, Sonja is usually willing to do anything to draw attention to herself. Often fueled by generous amounts of alcohol. Or the desire for more screen time. You have to wonder, does Sonja have any limits on what she is willing to do–or share on the show? Maybe not, as she and her co-stars recently dished on two of her strangest habits.
One of the main themes of this season of the Real Housewives of New York is Luann de Lesseps’ sobriety. Everyone has an opinion about it and her co-stars have generally been supportive of her not drinking. Of course, they draw the support line at refraining from drinking in her presence! Or even slowing down a bit. I am not mentioning any names–Sonja Morgan and Dorinda Medley. And you too, Tinsley Mortimer.
As the other ladies are still drinking as much as ever, you have to wonder how this impacts Luann. On this week’s episode of the show we watched an inebriated Sonja embarrass herself in Miami-in a big way! Is this something you should do around a close friend who is newly sober? It makes you wonder if Sonja is truly respectful of Luann’s sobriety. Luann has some thoughts about an earlier sobriety faux pas committed by Sonja–and Ms. Morgan, of course, also explains her side of the story.
