I keep a list of least favorite husbands on Real Housewives. It grows longer and longer every year. David Foster’s been on it for a while and it’s not just because he left Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ Yolanda Hadid at the height of her illness. It’s because he’s a narcissistic jerk that doesn’t want guests to have fun at parties as much as he wants them to fawn over his performance skills. Also – check out his documentary (actually don’t), it’s filled with revisionist history to make him look better.
David’s been married five times. His most recent marriage is to American Idol alum, Katharine McPhee. He’s 71 and she’s 36. That’s the same age difference between my father and me, but oh well, this is Hollywood! I’m sure this marriage is the one that will last.
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fans heard about Yolanda Hadid’s (then Yolanda Foster) struggles with Lyme Disease during her final seasons on the shows.
Her castmates questioned how truthful she was because some days she “looked fine.” And don’t even mention the word “Munchausen” because I’m still burned out from its use during Yolanda’s final season.
Hmm. For the penultimate episode of the season, this week’s Real Housewives of Orange County sure felt strange. And honestly, I have to admit it feels quite odd to be recapping tonight given the chaos that’s happened in Washington D.C. today. Over the last 15 years, the Housewives franchise has often provided a much-needed dose of escapism from the horrors and headlines of real life. Tonight in the O.C., however, provided no such relief from the reality of a mob storming the Capitol in an attempt to overthrow the democratic process. But alas, here we are. And the recapping must go on…
I think my biggest issue with this episode of Real Housewives of Orange County is that it really just boiled down to a series of one-on-one conversations. Because of coronavirus restrictions, the women haven’t been able to congregate together since the trip to Lake Arrowhead. And really, they haven’t all been together since before the pandemic shut down production. Right? Since the cast trip to Palm Springs? So basically they’re left to talk in pairs, or film with their kids, siblings and significant others. None of which is particularly interesting on its own without a main storyline driving the narrative.
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Erika Jayne has to be regretting her song “XXpen$ive” these days, right? Almost every article slamming her and her lawyer husband Tom Girardi for their questionable finances (and ethics) is citing that song and Erika’s other claims about her lavish lifestyle.
She has even said that she spends $40K on glam every single month. Most of us were questioning if that was actually worth it. News flash: it’s not. Especially since her husband had been withholding money from his clients, who were owed money after losing family members in airplane crashes, explosions, and boating accidents. Basically, Tom was taking money from orphans, widows, and widowers to fund Erika’s ridiculous costume budget and her paid “friends” from her glam squad.
Well, that’s it. My brain is permanently scarred. My eyes can’t unsee it. Did anyone have Kelly Dodd filming in bed with a shirtless Rick Leventhal on their 2020 Bravo bingo card? Because that’s how this episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County opened. And in the immortal words of one Valerie Cherish, “I don’t need to see that!” (Listen, if you know, you know.) Honestly, the less said about the Fox News reporter wanting to hang things Kelly (in 7 minutes though?), the better. The only good thing about suffering through that opening scene was seeing it get interrupted by Hoda Kotb reporting on the encroaching coronavirus.
This season is turning out to be a bit like Game of Thrones when it comes to the pandemic. Like the families of Westeros, the women are busy fighting and feuding and getting offended. But the real problem on the horizon is the proverbial White Walker they’re all dismissing. It’s coming, ladies. Even if Rick Leventhal isn’t worried about it. And it’s going to lay waste to this season, which apparently, we might already be about halfway through? If that’s true, is this jaunt to Palm Springs supposed to count as one of Season 15’s cast trips?
We all know David Foster as “my King” or rather Yolanda Hadid’s king on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. We also know David is an egomaniac with disdain for guests who try to sing along at his parties. David wants us to know that he absolutely DID NOT leave Yolanda because she had Lyme disease. Even though we already know that David is terrible at marriage.
According to Wikipedia, David married singer, B.J. Cook in the seventies. They had a daughter and divorced soon after. In the eighties, he was married four years to Rebecca Dyer. They had three daughters. In the nineties, he married Linda Thompson. Linda is noteworthy because she co-wrote one of the greatest Whitney Houston songs ever, I Have Nothing. She’s also Brody Jenner’s mom and stayed with David a whopping 15 years. From 2011 to 2017 David was married to Yolanda. Now, he’s married to Katharine McPhee. He’s 70. She’s 36.
Nowadays, Gigi Hadid is known as one of the highest paid supermodels in the world, but the longtime Real Housewives of Beverly Hills viewers remember meeting her as Yolanda Foster’s daughter. Who could ever forget Yolanda advising Gigi to eat one almond when she was hungry and only letting her eat one piece of her own cake at her graduation part?
Well, Yolanda dropped the “Foster” and returned to Yolanda Hadid right around the time she exited Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, instead spending her time on a Pennsylvania farm and cheering on her supermodel children on Instagram a la momager Kris Jenner. She also was the first one to confirm that Gigi was expecting a baby with Zayn Malik in April (hopefully, she got permission to spill the tea on that one) during an interview with a Dutch radio station. Now, she’s a grandma.
Lisa Rinna has always brought the drama on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. For that, we appreciate her. But the drama she brings cross lines and make her look like some voice of reason. Whether it was the Yolanda Hadid has Munchausen syndrome story, the Kim Richards is close to death story, or this season’s Denise Richards pile on– Rinna dishes it out. But does she ever really take it?
She might talk about “owning it”, but that usually comes with some Emmy caliber crying-for-the-cameras. Point being, when someone questions Rinna’s motives, behavior, opinions, life, anything to do with her – she cannot handle it. Exhibit A is from the most recent episode of RHOBH. Garcelle Beauvais questioned if Rinna’s underwear dances on social media may have impacted Amelia Gray Hamlin’s body image. Rinna said no thoughtfully enough, and the women moved on. Yet months after this happened in rrealtime Garcelle’s getting the response Rinna has been waiting to give.
