Jennifer Lopez Approves Of ‘American Idol’ Replacement Mariah Carey; Gives Her Advice

Jennifer Lopez is leaving American Idol because they told her to to focus on family and film. E! News recently caught up with the former judge to get her thoughts on Mariah Carey joining American Idol. Does Carey have what it takes?

“I think so, yeah! Why not? She’s a musician for a long time she has a lot of experience,” Lopez told E! News. “And it’s that experience you offer them at the end of the day, the contestants just want to get better and grow through the process.”

Jennifer Lopez offers some advice to Mariah Carey.

Jennifer Lopez Is Number One On Forbes Celebrity 100 List!

“Just enjoy the journey,” Lopez says. “There is pressure as far as the live shows, but you know what? Just remember you’re there at the end of the day to help those contestants grow and to get to the end and to get to that finale. And whenever I thought about that, it always made my job a little less pressure-filled and a little easier, because it’s not about you.”

That’s the key to being a great judge, advises Lopez.  A judge cannot lose sight of the fact that the show is all about the contestants.

“It wasn’t about me, it was about them,” Lopez explains. “It was about helping them and that always made it a lot of fun for me. I’m going to miss it a lot.”

Ryan Seacrest hasn’t dished out any advice for Mariah Carey but he has offered to babysit. He tweeted, “Welcome to the fam @MariahCarey!! When u and @nickcannon need a date night, I’m happy to strap on the double baby bjorn :)”

Seacrest and Carey are the only two sure things for the upcoming season of American Idol. Randy Jackson is Carey’s co-manager and played a big part in recruiting her for American Idol, but his official role for season 12 has yet to be announced. Even if Jackson continues his run as judge, there’s still one (or two?) judging seat sitting empty.
