Pink Explains Why We’ll Never See Her Judging American Idol

It seems like every singer under the sun’s name has been mentioned as a potential American Idol judge.  From Nick Jonas to Diddy, everyone is “in talks” to fill that third seat.  However, some of artists who have been approached to critique young hopefuls have turned down the gig.

Case in point?  The punkish pop star Pink does NOT want to be giving advice to unknown singers trying to make it big.  In fact, she’s turned down the opportunity to judge on both AI and X Factor because she thinks there are too many of these reality television talent shows on the air.  She doesn’t want any part of it!

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Pink reveals, “It’s not gonna happen. It’s not that I don’t want to do one, it’s just out of spite for everyone else doing one and it being so f- - -ing annoying. I believe that ours would be very entertaining, but no thank you. I’ve been asked to do American Idol and X Factor. I’m an Ed McMahon kind of girl. Star Search? I’m in, all day long. It felt more authentic, and the market wasn’t oversaturated with karaoke -contests. It’s just not for me.”

Pink cites the advice of the head of her former record label allows her to turn down these offers with no regrets about the potential payout she’ll be missing.  L.A. Reid, also an X Factor judge of course, told Pink when she was starting out to set up a separate “f-you” account in which she could deposit half her earnings.  She doesn’t touch the funds in the account, and she lives off her other money.  She’s been doing it since she started, and now the account has accrued so much money, she doesn’t have to worry about doing things she doesn’t believe in just to get a paycheck.

Pink explains, “When I first started, L.A. Reid said, ‘Make sure you put money into your F- - - You account. That’s the account that, one day when people ask you to do things you don’t want to do, you say “F- - - you.” ’ I make sure that my F- - - You account is okay, so that you never have to make decisions based on money. I feel like that’s where people kill their careers.”

Well, you certainly have to give her credit for doing what she wants and not doing what she doesn’t want to do.  While I think Pink would be a stellar judge, I applaud her for sticking to her guns.
