Married At First Sight Recap- Season 13 Premiere: Lone Stars No More

One of reality TV’s most controversial dating shows, Married At First Sight is BACK!!! I have to admit, I love this show! Where else can I put my warring personality traits of being jaded and hopeless romantic to good use? Ten crazy brave singles in Houston will meet their new stranger spouse for the first time at the altar. This season features the show’s first Asian American couple. Based on the trailer, fans should expect some explosive moments, including some surprise setbacks.

Nerves are high as everyone prepares to marry a complete stranger.  The couples have just found out they are engaged and now only have less than two weeks until their wedding day. Each person reveals the shocking news to their family. This is a short time to convince your loved ones you are not completely insane. The participants will have to find a way to convince their guests to show up to a wedding that could end in divorce in a few months. I have a feeling this is going to be an entertaining ride. Let’s get straight into the recap!

Myrla & Gil

Married At First Sight Recap- Season 13 Premiere: Lone Stars No More

Myrla, 34, grew up less fortunate in South Texas, but is now looking for someone she can share the finer things in life with. She is a leadership coach, who trusts the experts to find her perfect match. But given her superficial and high maintenance ways, she may be in for a rude awakening. Gil, 35, was born and raised in Colombia and wants a family he can come home to after a long shift from work. He is currently a firefighter with a heart of gold, but with trust issues. When he was child, his father was killed in a home invasion and it has taken him awhile to learn to trust strangers.

Michaela & Zack

Married At First Sight Recap- Season 13 Premiere: Lone Stars No More

30-year-old, Michaela is Houston-born and a successful realtor.  She often sells homes to people in the next stage of their lives and is hoping to find that for herself.  Michaela didn’t have it easy growing up, even being homeless at one point. Although she has never been in love, she is looking for a man that has some of the qualities of her late father. She will be marrying 27-year-old, Baton Rouge native Zack who moved to Houston in hopes of finding a wife. Although still young, he feels like his biological clock is ticking fast. When he informs his family they are shocked, to say the least. His mother is brought to tears with the thought of her son marrying a “random girl.”

Michaela and Zach go shopping for their wedding attire. They both find outfits that make them feel confident, but both are still nervous about what their stranger spouse will think. Honestly, I don’t think attraction will be this couple’s biggest hurdle. They both seem to know what they want and are willing to take a risk to get it.

Bao & Johnny

Married At First Sight Recap- Season 13 Premiere: Lone Stars No More

35-year-old Johnny was born in Houston where he and his sister were raised by their hardworking single mother. After his parents’ divorce, he has been very particular in his search for a partner, without any luck. For the first time in his life, he is ready to relinquish control to find true love. When he reveals the news to his friends they are all happy for him. But, Johnny is devastated when his father does not approve of his decision. 35-year-old, Bao is the daughter of Vietnamese refugee parents who are ready for grandchildren. Initially, she never intended to get married, but has had a change of heart in recent years. But she is willing to take a huge risk, for a chance at true happiness. When she shares the news with her brothers, they applaud her courage.

Later, Johnny vents to his friend about feeling insecure and gravitating towards clingy women. He admits that he overcompensates for the lack of affection he felt as a child. Well, he better get ready, I don’t think Bao is going to be the clingy type. Meanwhile, she opens up to her brother about what she wants in her marriage. I think this couple has potential, if they are patient and can get out of their heads.

Johnny and Bao will be the first couple who will walk down the aisle. Before getting ready, she gets a pep talk from one of her friends. They both exchange gifts before the ceremony and it definitely breaks the ice. Although Bao’s gift is received well by Johnny, she is disappointed and alarmed when she receives sports paraphernalia. Oh Johnny! Clearly he didn’t run his gift idea past a woman in his life.

Shockingly, when Bao walks down the aisle, she realizes she knows her groom. Usually that could be a very bad sign, but neither seems unhappy. They both seem more relaxed knowing that they have history. In a post interview, Johnny reveals they met in college because of their affiliations with student organizations. They both admit that they are attracted to one another and have a lot in common. I am really excited to see how this all pans out. I am cautiously optimistic about this couple.

Brett & Ryan

Married At First Sight Recap- Season 13 Premiere: Lone Stars No More

35-year-old, Ryan has grown up in Texas where his extended family has always been within walking distance. He is a hopeless romantic who wants to share his life with that special someone. When he lost his best friend suddenly, it changed his outlook on life. His family is shocked that he has decided to get married in such an unorthodox way. Despite being born in New Jersey, 33-year-old, Brett considers Houston, Texas her hometown. She hasn’t been in a relationship in over 2 years. She has decided to trust the process in hopes of having a great love story. Her friends are excited, but worry that she could be devastated, if things don’t work out.

Rachel & Jose

Married At First Sight Recap- Season 13 Premiere: Lone Stars No More

At 33, Rachel has a newfound confidence, despite her recent breakup and her own parents’ divorce. She is finally ready to find someone she can grow with. When she tells her family about her engagement, they warn her not to be too accommodating. Jose, on the other hand, is a 35-year-old who is very successful, but a perfectionist. In regards to dating, he hasn’t found anyone serious, who is willing to take the next step. But when Jose tells his family, they are worried about his expectations.

Even at the bachelor party, Jose can’t relax. He admits to the other grooms that he has written down all the questions he has for his wife. Currently, his list is at total of 256. Sigh! Hopefully he doesn’t start grilling the poor girl as soon as they meet. I have a feeling that Jose’s need to control everything is going to be a problem.
