Tinder Swindler Simon Leviev

Netflix’s Tinder Swindler Sued By The Diamond Family He Claimed To Be A Part Of

The Tinder Swindler, the Netflix documentary that chronicled the alleged conman, Simon Leviev, continues to make waves. Simon (born: Shimon Hayut0), spent two years in a Finnish prison after being found guilty of defrauding three women. His con was finding women on popular dating sites like Tinder and Hinge. He would then lavish them with luxury, leading them to believe he was rich.

Once he had them on the hook, he started claiming that he had “enemies” after him. He would say he lost access to his vast funds. He would then harass them to send him money. Lots of money. It’s estimated that he has scammed his dates out of approximately $10 million.

One of the ways he was able to sell his supposed wealth was by claiming he was part of the Leviev diamond empire. He claimed to be the son of the Israeli Russian patriarch, Lev Leviev. Now the family is taking legal action against him for his false claims. As reported by Page Six, the family, including daughter Chagit Leviev, are suing Simon for allegedly impersonating them. They also accuse him of using their name to boost his status as a wealthy playboy.

In court documents, the lawsuit alleges, “For a long time, he [Simon] has been making false representations as being the son of Lev Leviev and receiving numerous benefits (including material ones), cunningly and using false words, claiming to be a member of the Leviev Family, and that his family will pay and bear the costs of his benefits.”

The documents continued, “He even used the LLD Diamonds trademark to make his victims believe that he was indeed part of the diamond company (it’s CEO no less, per his signature) and was a member of the Leviev Family.”

The Leviev family also claims that Simon “defrauded, cheated, conned, falsified, and hurt women, men and businesses.” Not only in Israel, but the world as well. The lawsuit stated, “The defendant used the dating application ‘Tinder’ to locate women who he then emotionally manipulated, cunningly bamboozled of funds, and eventually convinced to transfer large sums of money to him under the guise of being on the run from individuals intending on hurting him.”

Chagit, who is the Leviev Group USA CEO, said that her family business has been operating for 40 years. They supply rare diamonds to top-tier jewelers worldwide. Their diamonds have also been seen on celebrities and international royalty.

Chagit explained, “We started hearing word about Simon Leviev in 2017. There are nine siblings in my family, five brothers – and none of them are called Simon – and four girls.”

She added, “Soon I started hearing from diamond dealers that he’d made out checks of $350,000 in our name, but they were not our checks. Then another company called us and said we owed them $600,000 for private jets. They sent me a picture of his passport; it was Shimon Hayut.” Chagit went to the police in Israel but Simon “was moving through so many different countries it was hard to keep track of him.”

She continued, “The biggest shock is when we saw the Netflix show and we saw the extent of his damage and his manipulation. The truth is, that show is just the tip of the iceberg. For him to live that life, he has to be conducting an international fraud of enormous proportions. There must be so many other victims.” Chagit noted, “And we have evidence of him using charter companies, yachts, high end apartment rentals, it goes on and on.”

Chagit said that any proceeds from the lawsuit will be given to Simon’s victims. She confessed, “We feel truly sorry for them, this guy is a fake and a fraud.”

Chagit also explained the toll it has taken on their business. “Even though we are a diamond company, we are victims too. We are getting threats because of this, endless prank calls saying, ‘My enemies are coming for me.’ I believe the show didn’t do a good enough job of explaining that we have nothing to do with him,” she said.

As for the revelation that Simon has signed with a Hollywood agent, Chagit finished, “In the end, to see the damage he has done, he did all of this this in our name. And now he has a Hollywood agent? He doesn’t belong in Hollywood. He is a criminal.”

In addition to having a new agent, Simon has joined Cameo, selling videos up to $1,600 a pop. He’s currently living in Israel with his model girlfriend, while selling novelty t-shirts. The logo reads, “If she really loves you she’ll take out a loan for you.”
