Ed Sheeran Reveals Details on How He Named His Children

Ed Sheeran recently got candid about the sweet thing he and his wife, Cherry Seaborn, kept in mind while naming their kids. The English singer opened up about how his perception shifted after becoming a dad of two daughters. While appearing on Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Sheeran shared why it was important for him that the girls have both his and his wife’s last names.

Ed Sheeran appeared on the April 9 episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast and got honest about why his kids having both his and his wife’s last names was so important. The 34-year-old tied the knot with Cherry Seaborn in 2019 and went on to welcome two beautiful daughters — Lyra and Jupiter — together.

While talking to Alex Cooper during his appearance on her podcast, Sheeran revealed that after getting married and welcoming their daughters, he wanted to “preserve” his and Seaborn’s roots. The singer-songwriter stated that “it’s kind of weird” how the “old tradition” has been about taking the “names away.” Sheeran referred to how the wife takes her husband’s last name after marriage.

The artist added that the couple took the unconventional route, and their daughters have both last names. Later, Sheeran got candid about why this was important to him. The singer recalled that he was only acquainted with the old tradition while growing up. Sheeran said, “My mum had my dad’s name, and, you know, I come from a very large Irish Catholic family.” He added, “Sheeran was the name.”

However, Sheeran continued to share that his perception shifted after he married and became a girl dad. The “Shape of You” hitmaker explained, “You can’t just be born and just believe things.” He added, “You have to, kind of, experience and be brought over.” Sheeran further doubled down on his belief. He said the case should be to “obviously keep both identities when you have children.”
