The last year and a half has been a whirlwind for Golden Bachelor star Theresa Nist. She married Gerry Turner on television, only to wind up divorced a few months later. That would be enough to send most people into a spiral.
Gerry came forward and said that a cancer diagnosis played a role in their split, and now, he’s dating someone new. It’s a lot to digest, but somehow, Theresa is keeping her head held high.

Gerry confirmed the news of his new relationship earlier this month and was contemplating how to break the news to Theresa. He wound up speaking with Golden Bachelor runner-up Leslie Fhima and Golden Bachelorette star Joan Vassos. They suggested that he give Theresa a heads-up before making his relationship public.
Us Weekly spoke to Theresa to get her side of the story, and she had nothing but positive things to say about how Gerry handled the situation. She said she’s been focusing on “introspection” in the months after her divorce, so she’s unbothered by Gerry and his new fling.
“He brought that up to [Leslie and Joan] to say, ‘What should I do?’ And Leslie said, ‘Of course, tell Theresa, she’ll be happy for you.’ And so the next day, he texted me and I said, ‘Can you talk?’” Theresa recalled.
She continued, “He said, ‘I just wanna let you know I met someone.’ I said, ‘That’s wonderful. I’m so happy for you.’ He goes, ‘I was afraid to tell you.’ ‘Why would you be afraid? I only want your happiness.’ Like, if this was the way it happened for him to find his person to go on the show, get married, and then find his person this way, then it was meant to be.”
It takes a certain level of maturity to look at Gerry’s new relationship from that perspective. However, that doesn’t mean the entire breakup has been smooth. In the same interview, Theresa insinuated that there was more to the story about their divorce. She said it wasn’t about the cancer diagnosis, nor was it about a disagreement over living arrangements.
“I don’t know if I’ll ever say what the reason was for me,” Teresa told the outlet.
