It’s not uncommon for Bravolebs to push back against the establishment when they leave the Bravoverse. Whether it is by firing or by their own choice. Many before Hannah Berner have burned bridges. But the Summer House star is more than willing to open up about how reality TV is “rampant with misogyny.”
Hannah Berner can’t watch reality TV anymore after Summer House
After her great success at the Festival of Books, touring with Paige DeSorbo, the comedian sat down to chat with The Hollywood Reporter about her experiences in reality TV. And it turns out that Hannah doesn’t have the stomach for those types of shows anymore. She shared, “The stand-up special is my therapy. Reality TV was one of the ways that I was put on. So I’m so grateful for it. But I can’t watch reality TV anymore.” Hannah expanded on her thoughts, “I do think reality TV, as I saw, that everyone is put into characters, and you’re very much put into a box. The rampant misogyny, gave me this chip on my shoulder to be like, I want to be seen as me.”
For Hannah, her time on Summer House was stifling. The former Bravo star explained, “When I say me, [I mean] all the sides of me, I want to put out the vulnerability, the mistakes I’ve made, the confidence I have, the anxiety I have.” The former tennis pro added, “If I’m going to be judged, I want it to be judged based off at least a human rather than an archetype. I do think I always emphasize just how women are so multifaceted, and I try to in my comedy, say things that maybe women were afraid of or insecure about, so [they can say], ‘Hannah just said it, so it can’t be that bad.’”
Summer House is available to stream on Peacock and Hayu in the UK and Ireland.
