With judges Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan no longer to save contestants at the Top 7 portion of the competition, the American Idol contestants that made the Top 5 was in the hands of the voting public. They decided to send Mattie Pruitt and Gabby Samone home from the competition, as Season 23 continues to be one of the most brutal viewers have seen.
This week’s Sunday episode saw Lin-Manuel Miranda guest-coach. He helped the contestants vocalize on Disney songs, and they also performed some Mother’s Day tributes. Thunderstorm’s was an especially emotional one. He dedicated an original song to his wife, which he says she inspired. It left host Ryan Seacrest deadpanning that he had never been more “depressed” to be single.
Now at the Top 5 stage of the competition, two more competitors will be sent home from American Idol 2025 in tonight’s (May 12, 2025) episode of Season 23.
