A shocking discovery of human remains in Westerly has thrust Taylor Swift‘s Rhode Island mansion, one of her many houses, into the spotlight. Reportedly, on Wednesday morning, police discovered what appeared to be a human leg bone “a couple of football fields” away from the pop sensation’s seaside property in the affluent Watch Hill neighborhood.
Police released a statement to PEOPLE, confirming they received a call that morning around 9:30 a.m. about the finding of “what appeared to be a human leg bone” on Everett Avenue. The statement noted that Westerly police transported the remains to the Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s Office for examination. “Investigators are awaiting official confirmation of the identity of the remains,” it read, adding that they don’t yet suspect foul play.
According to NBC10 WJAR, a Westerly resident, Taylor Day, spoke to them after witnessing the police arrive at the human remains site. She told the news that seeing the police cars pull up behind her “alarmed” her, believing it was “something very out of the ordinary” for the town, and called the discovery “very suspicious.” She also pointed out that the location of the remains was probably a “couple of football fields away” from Swift’s mansion.
