While away in Arizona on a girls’ trip, Layla Taylor decided it was time to play a game most viewers had never heard of. At first, I thought her idea for pregnancy roulette was a Mormon game. But I quickly learned that she got the idea from a TikTok trend. Already I’m annoyed. The premise was to have each woman pee on a stick and then cover the result. Each influencer would then pull a stick out of a bowl and reveal the result. Personally, I’m not sure why anyone agreed. And why did no one tell Layla that her idea was stupid? The 23-year-old announced she was a week late and thought this would just be a silly game.
However, Demi Engemann, who just spoke about her fertility issues in the episode before, was triggered. She joked, “This is a cruel prank because what if someone is and it’s not me?” Demi said. “This isn’t traumatic at all. I don’t cry every single time I take a test and get a negative.” She was one of the ladies who pulled out a pregnancy test that read positive. She immediately started crying, sharing that she had never gotten that result herself. Demi then told cameras, “I can’t even explain how deeply sad I’m feeling at this moment. There’s no way. All you get is negative tests.”

The rest of the women seemed just to stand around while their friend had a meltdown. I’m actually livid that no one thought to use water for the result – it wasn’t like they were watching one another pee. This was the worst scene to watch, upsetting many. On top of that, it was such a stupid, thoughtless game. What were you thinking, Layla?
Even though Demi might get some side-eyes on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, it didn’t mean she deserved to feel so low. During Episode 9, shortly before the game from hell, Demi told the dinner table she had been trying to have a baby for the past four years. “We kind of just started back at square one because we don’t have answers.” The 30-year-old added, “It is so taxing and emotionally draining. It’s more how bad Maude wants a sibling and how bad I want that with someone that I’m in love with.” During her confessional, she noted Bret Engemann had a varicose vein that’s “basically suffocating the sperm.” Demi also revealed she struggles with endometriosis. Demi’s fertility struggle is real and resonated with many viewers.
Mayci Neeley and Mikayla Matthews are pregnant
There were many issues with the game. Problem one: Mayci Neeley is pregnant but hasn’t told anyone about it. Problem two: Mikayla Matthews is also pregnant and hasn’t told anyone. Sadly, the two best friends didn’t feel comfortable after the game, as they were made to feel bad after Demi’s breakdown. The two besties hide out in one bedroom. The scene is cute, as Mayci knows about Mikayla’s pregnancy, but Mikayla has no idea about Mayci. The blonde shared the good news with her friend, who quickly started crying. According to the two Mormons, there is nothing better than being pregnant at the same time as your friend. Fans learned that Mayci had actually been trying for months as she opened up about her IVF journey. Eventually, Demi calmed down and congratulated her friends, but the damage was done.
Layla’s game was diabolical. At some point, the ladies should know that life isn’t all about content. Demi made it perfectly clear that this activity made her uncomfortable. She should have excused herself, but her friends should also have known better. Not one MomTok member stood up for her. And while I like to think I am a person who can take a joke, I did not find this scene funny. Do better, MomTok.
