Taylor Swift gives an update on ‘Reputation’ re-recording and it’s looking good
Taylor Swift disclosed some big news on the “Reputation” re-recording, which will be part of her “Taylor’s Version” re-recordings, in a recently released letter to fans. The letter came right after the singer announced that she had finally bought back all her masters. She briefly addressed Swifties’ one of the most burning questions: “What about Rep TV?” She then quickly revealed, “Full transparency: I haven’t even re-recorded a quarter of it.”
Swift further explained the re-recording scenario with the “Reputation” album, which debuted back on November 10, 2017. The global artist revealed, “The Reputation album was so specific to that time in my life, and I kept hitting a stopping point when I tried to remake it.” She added, “All that defiance, that longing to be understood while feeling purposely misunderstood, that desperate hope, that shame-born snarl and mischief.”
The 35-year-old songwriter shared that “Reputation” is “the one album in those first 6” that she believed “couldn’t be improved upon by redoing it.” Swift explained that neither “the music, or photos, or videos” left any scope for improvisation. As a result, she “kept putting it off.” However, Swift then gave a sneak peek into what she may have planned as the next step.
“There will be a time (if you’re into the idea) for the unreleased Vault tracks from that album to hatch,” she wrote, playing with the idea of releasing “vault” songs from the album. The singer went on to talk about her debut album thereafter. “I’ve already re-recorded my entire debut album,” the musician announced. “Those 2 albums can still have their moment to re-emerge when the time is right.”
Swift then optimistically teased, “If it happens, it won’t be from a place of sadness and longing for what I wish I could have. It will just be a celebration now.”
