Miley Cyrus Shares She Was ‘Kind of the Misfit’ at Met Gala 2025

Miley Cyrus made heads turn when she appeared at the Met Gala in all-black attire on May 5. The singer has now opened up about a host of things on The New York Times’ “The Interview” with Lulu Garcia-Navarro, including her 2025 Met Gala experience. It seems the annual haute couture fundraising festival was not her favorite party destination, as she felt like a “misfit.” However, on the brighter side, she did make a new musician “friend” who made her Met experience a delightful one.

Miley Cyrus reveals she’s ‘used to’ being a ‘misfit’ amid Met Gala 2025 situation

Miley Cyrus did not hold back when talking about her professional or personal life. The singer recently spoke to Lulu Garcia-Navarro on “The Interview” about her 2024 Grammy Award win, her relationship with her parents, and her experience at the 2025 Met Gala, along with many other things. Going by her response, it seems the singer’s Met experience was not so merry one. While sharing about the May 5 event on Saturday’s episode of “The Interview” podcast, the singer said she felt out of place as she had to sit with “strangers.”

“I was wearing Alaïa, who does not have a table, so I was kind of the misfit, which I’m always OK with,” she told Garcia-Navarro. “I’m used to that, it was fine, but it’s just an interesting situation because everything that makes you comfortable is taken from you.” That is why she suggested that the Met Gala should “add that you get a plus one for your stylist” so that guests have someone familiar to sit or talk with.

However, despite being surrounded by a “bunch of people” whom she didn’t know, Cyrus did manage to make “friends.” She struck up a conversation with musician Jon Batiste, marking it as her “most memorable” interaction from the Met Gala. “The first thing he asked me was, ‘What’s your favorite key to sing in?’ Which no one’s ever asked me before,” she shared. “He goes, ‘I’m guessing it’s a G or a C, but I think F would probably be your ceiling.’ Right away, I’m like, ‘You’re my friend.'”

Nevertheless, Miley Cyrus did manage to dazzle at the Met Gala. She flaunted her toned abs in a custom black leather crop top paired with a floor-length skirt and Cartier jewelry — apt for the gala’s “Tailored For You” dress code.
