Once upon a time in a Hamptons party house, a quick-witted, coffee-loving comedian named Hannah Berner stole scenes, stirred the pot, and made us all question if tennis jokes belong at brunch. After a few solid seasons, Hannah left Summer House, leaving fans to question if her complicated relationships with her roommates could ever be fixed. And even though it’s been a few seasons, fans are still curious about what prompted Hannah to call it quits on her reality TV career.
Why did Hannah Berner leave Summer House?
Season 5 of Summer House was a draining experience for everyone. But especially for Hannah. The author finally brought her Summer House journey to a close in 2021, after enduring a tumultuous season marked by altercations and an infamous kitchen breakdown involving eggs, as well as her controversial relationship with Luke Gulbranson. The self-proclaimed cowboy had ended their relationship and accused her of turning the house against him. She wrote an emotional farewell message on Instagram and explained she needed to concentrate on developing her comedy career. She wrote, “This past year has been one of the most important in my life for self reflection, love, and learning a lot of shit. I’ve welcomed new career ventures, challenges and obstacles, and opportunities for growth.”
Hannah added, “As we climb out of the emotional trenches of 2020, I look forward to an exciting summer, but with mixed emotions, I’m announcing I won’t be spending it living in the summer house. At the time, fans theorized that there were other reasons for her departure. The friction between Hannah and her fellow cast members, including Amanda Batula and Kyle Cooke, was clearly apparent. And when people get excluded from group chats by the entire house, Bravo tends to let them go.
What is Hannah Berner doing now?
Another reason behind Hannah’s departure seemed to stem from her engagement to fellow comedian Des Bishop. She and Des got married in May 2022. Some followers speculated that her romantic involvement with Des might have influenced her decision to leave since he appeared in several awkward cameos on the show. After leaving Summer House, Hannah has forged her own path and is thriving. First, let’s talk comedy. Hannah hit the stand-up circuit hard. The former Summer House star performed across multiple U.S. cities while filling every seat at her shows and launched her comedy special, Burning Bridges, in 2023.
Together with her best friend, Paige DeSorbo, she runs the podcast Giggly Squad. The podcast has gained a large fan base by combining pop culture reviews with dating disaster stories and energetic best-friend conversations. The duo also just ended a successful tour. Currently, Hannah is still touring and embracing the world of TikTok, where she often rants about millennial struggles and shows fans how to post thirst traps. Frankly, she is giving the people exactly what they want. Hannah is all about the laughs and ensures an authentic sense of happiness every time she performs.
Could Hannah Berner return to Summer House?
Let’s be honest. The Bravo network operates under a fundamental principle where “never say never” functions as a law of physics. On more than one occasion, a Bravoleb has left a series only to return at a later date. At this moment, we have no official information or hints from the Summer House camp. Not even a secretive Instagram Story. But I have theories. Summer House is going through a major shift as it heads into Season 10. It feels like the end of an era because someone is definitely leaving. Just today it was announced Paige is moving on to greener pastures and leaving the show.
But with that being said, Hannah has created her own little bit of a paradise. And is laser-focused on her comedy career. For some, returning to a series you left could feel like two steps back. So would she pick up the phone if Andy Cohen decided to call? There have been more surprising events in television history, like watching Kristen Doute’s return to The Valley as the voice of reason. So if Hannah does have a change of heart about Summer House, we will have our Aperol Spritz in hand as we watch her return to Montauk for one more glorious summer.
Summer House is available to stream on Peacock and Hayu in the UK and Ireland.
