Chris Evans almost revealed his proposal plans to his wife, Alba Baptista, before the main event. During the New York City premiere of A24’s latest project, “Materialists,” the Hollywood star shared his romantic proposal story. He told The Knot that he “practiced” a lot and nearly “let the cat out of the bag.”

Chris Evans and Alba Baptista got married in September 2023 at a private ceremony in Massachusetts. Speaking about popping the question, he told The Knot that he proposed to his wife in Portuguese. The Marvel actor shared the details when he recently graced the red carpet at the New York premiere of his new film, “Materialists,” on June 7.
Evans said, “Maybe I shouldn’t even be saying this. I proposed to my now-wife in Portuguese — she’s Portuguese.” He added. “So I learned how to say, ‘Will you marry me?’ in Portuguese. And I had practiced all week.”
The “Captain America” actor shared he practiced “so much” that he almost exposed his plans to Baptista. He explained, “I’d be making breakfast and you almost just start saying it out loud and you’re like, ‘Oh God’.” “That’s not just a song that’s stuck in my head, it’s gonna let the cat out of the bag,” Evans quipped.
Despite the preparations, he got “really nervous” on D-Day when he proposed to the “Warrior Nun” actor. Further, Evans confessed that he believed he “screwed” up a bit, but nobody noticed.
The celebrity couple faced their first dating rumors towards the end of 2022. They made their red carpet debut at the 2024 Vanity Fair Oscar Party — a year after they tied the knot. Now, the “Avengers” star is enjoying his married life. He told E! News, “We are laying low. We’re enjoying our time, just relaxing.” Evans further described his relationship with his wife as “incredible” and “wonderful.”
