Jimmy Fallon Could Leave ‘The Tonight Show’ Before His Contract Ends, Says ‘Source’

Jimmy Fallon might leave “The Tonight Show” soon. Recently, a source told RadarOnline that the host could quit the talk show before his contract ends with NBC. Fallon seemingly doubts the longevity of the format of the traditional late-night projects. The report suggested that viewership took a toll since he returned to the studio post-COVID.

Jimmy Fallon considering future of late night TV, says ‘source’

Jimmy Fallon’s contract appears to run until 2028, but he might leave “The Tonight Show” before the final date. RadarOnline mentioned that the staff members might be in panic due to the speculations about the host’s quitting plans. Stating the reason for leaving the show, a source said, “His preference would be to retire from the show as the leader in the ratings.”

However, Fallon is also “realistic about this stuff, and he could even leave before his contract is up, if that’s the network’s decision.” During the pandemic, the comedian gained attention with his broadcast from home. However, the ratings of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” seemed to drop once he returned to the studio.

“He’s also dealing with a big question about the future of late-night TV in general, which is, how long can the party last?” the insider added. The change in the ratings might have pushed Fallon to make a decision regarding the future of his career.

According to the tabloid, his talk show runs in second against “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” “The big problem here is that nobody is talking about the show anymore and Jimmy, and NBC, feel that and have to respond to it,” the source stated. Moreover, the staff apparently didn’t think of this job as their “destination” but as “a stepping stone.”

However, an NBC spokesperson told RadarOnline that the reports about Fallon’s exit “is not true.” Meanwhile, the tabloid’s insider insisted that the comedian “is continuing to develop and produce new shows,” which might be considered as his future plans post “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
