Sam Asghari recently sat down for a podcast with Page Six Radio, where he was candid about his relationship with his ex-wife, Britney Spears. Speaking about the relationship, the 31-year-old said, “I can’t sit here and lie and say, ‘It wasn’t good for me’.” He further added, “When you’re in such a public relationship … it sort of gave me that platform for who I am.”
The model also recalled his first meeting with the pop icon “on the acting set as co-workers.” The couple started dating during the early days of Asghari’s career, which also brought him massive public attention. He stated, “I just started acting at that moment, so I was already doing stuff anyway,” While the relationship gave him a publicity boost, it also ended up pressuring him to do better. “Did it make me, you know, have to work harder to prove myself? Absolutely,” he expressed.
“The Traitors” contestant also discussed his life as a waiter and personal trainer, in addition to his acting pursuits. He revealed how casting agents started saying, “Do we really want to hire someone that’s a cheesy trainer? Oh, and he’s associated with a pop star, which is also cheesy as well. Or can we see him as a character?’ There was that line as well.”
For context, Sam Asghari and Britney Spears first met during the filming of the music video for “Slumber Party” in 2016. The duo got engaged in September 2021 and tied the knot on June 9, 2022, at Spears’s house in California. In the following year, in July, the couple ended their relationship and divorced on December 2, 2024. Asghari opened up on the split with PEOPLE, sharing, “It was a blessing to be able to share life with someone for a long time. And people grow apart and people move on.”
