Miley Cyrus recently opened up about her past trauma, including online bullying that left her with a preference for “modest” bikinis. During her appearance on the “Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky” podcast, the pop star shared how memes shared over a decade ago still influenced her clothing choices. Cyrus expressed that she can’t wear bikini tops anymore, referencing an incident from a girls’ trip, which included one of her sisters.
Miley Cyrus now wears ‘modest bathing suits’ after scathing memes
Miley Cyrus shared a deeply personal moment of her life while speaking to host Monica Lewinsky. The singer, who has been promoting her new album “Something Beautiful,” shared her past traumatic experience with bullying that has stayed with her. The pop icon talked about scathing memes shared on the internet years ago that now make her feel insecure.
Cyrus revealed witnessing memes about her body in 2013. Sharing more about the incident, the singer said, “People were putting my head on, you know, different, very unattractive things, and I still see that when I put on a bathing suit to this day.” The star confessed to wearing “very modest bathing suits” as a result of the effect that online bullying had on her.
Cyrus proceeded to recall a girls’ trip with her friends and sister, where everyone except her wore a string bikini. The singer chose to go with a tank top and shorts, a direct consequence of her past trauma. She also joked about whether people in this day and age wore “tankinis” anymore. The “Hannah Montana” star further shared how her sister responded to her fashion choice.
Cyrus’ sister had a mixed reaction to the singer’s swimwear. The singer recalled her sister complimenting her for bringing back the tankini style but stated that “this is what, like, a grandma wears to the beach.” This, however, hit the “Flowers” singer deeply, leading to a moment of reflection.
The Disney legend said, “It just hit me, like, oh, I’m still so insecure about those memes about my body.”
During her podcast episode, Cyrus also touched upon her relationship with early fame, navigating personal growth, family feuds, and more.
