Miley Cyrus Reveals How ‘Bangerz’ Era Affected ‘Relationships’

Miley Cyrus recently opened up about how her “Bangerz” era affected the “relationships” in her life. The singer-songwriter and actor’s honest revelation comes amid the promotions of her new cinematic studio album “Something Beautiful,” which was released earlier this month. In a recent interview, Cyrus looked back at her “Bangerz” era and revealed that she “lost everything” because of it.

Cyrus opened up while appearing on the June 10 episode of Monica Lewinsky’s “Reclaiming” podcast. While in conversation with the host, Cyrus looked back at the year 2013, when she released her album “Bangerz.” The era continues to be remembered as it marked a major shift in the “Hannah Montana” star’s persona. Cyrus repositioned her sweet Disney image to a more rebellious one. Recalling the era, the “Wrecking Ball” hitmaker said, “That was the time where I just got hit so hard.” She added, “I was so embarrassed.”

Miley Cyrus reveals she ‘lost everything’ during ‘Bangerz’ era

During her appearance on the “Reclaiming” podcast, Miley Cyrus recalled how the “Bangerz” era affected her “relationships.” The 32-year-old singer-actor revealed there was a time when her brother and sister “didn’t want to go to school because of how humiliated” they were to be “related” to her. Cyrus recalled her brother telling her at one point, “I don’t judge you, but you could understand how hard it is for me to go to school, and you be my sister.”

The “We Can’t Stop” singer then stated that it was “really hard” for her in 2013. Cyrus shared she “lost everything during that time” in her “personal life” because of the “choices” she made “professionally.” The “Flowers” hitmaker revealed her “relationships fell apart” if she “kept dressing or acting a certain way.” Cyrus explained that nobody “wanted to date” her because they “didn’t want to be with a woman” whose “sexual expression part was not for them.” Instead, it was “shared with the world.”

Cyrus then hinted at why her relationship with Liam Hemsworth fell apart the first time. She said, “When I was dating, or who I was engaged [to] at the time, that didn’t work out because I was sharing a part of myself that men wanted to be saved for them only.” Cyrus revealed her dating life was affected by her posing “nude,” dancing in “very little clothes,” and showing her body. The former Disney Channel icon explained that it made them “feel like I was taking something away that was meant to be for them.”

Cyrus shared that it was also “really hard” for her to “go home” and “see” her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus. She added, “Like look him in the eyes and not feel super embarrassed.”
