During her appearance on the “Reclaiming” podcast, the 32-year-old actor revealed, “Half of us weren’t speaking to each other at one point, and we cleaned all that up.” The “Hannah Montana” star shared that the mending was a “really important part” for her this year. This time was all about “putting those lines of communication back together” for the family.
Miley had a public fallout with Billy Ray after her parents got divorced. The singer continued to share that following the split, she had “a lot of loyalty” to her mom. She explained, “The way that families do when parents get divorced.” The former Disney Channel icon then explained how the years of estrangement affected the family dynamics. Miley said, “In that situation, I watched what happens when you don’t clean things up as they’re happening.” She added that they “really do stack.”
The actor continued to explain that it reaches the point when they go, “Oh my God, it’s been 10 years, and this is a mess that I barely even know how to start.” The “Flowers” hitmaker stated, “This is like emotional hoarding.” Miley then got candid about how she overcame the situation, saying, “I just kind of bust through the pile that stacked.”
The singer explained her approach was to “start by having a good time together.” Miley continued, “And then as we start bringing some happiness and joy into each other’s life, then we’ll just be in a better place to have these conversations.” She added, “‘Cause I’d rather get it balanced first.”
