Kanye West‘s representative has finally spoken out to address the confusion surrounding his name change in a new report. In recent days, word has been going around about the rapper changing his name for the second time. The first switch came in 2021 when West filed for legal work to officially start going by Ye. A recent report suggested that West changed it again. However, the hip-hop artist’s spokesperson has now explained what really happened.
Kanye West’s name was spelled ‘Ye Ye’ because of an online form
It has been confirmed that Kanye West did not change his name for the second time. A representative for the 48-year-old rapper told Page Six that “there is no ‘Ye Ye.'” The spokesperson explained the misunderstanding arose because of an “oddity created by an online form.” They shared that it “required something in both first name and last name fields.” Although “Ye Ye” was added because of the form’s criteria, West has not officially changed his name again.
The update comes after The U.S. Sun recently reported that West’s chief financial officer, Hussain Lalani, had submitted new documentation to the California Secretary of State. The rapper’s name, written in the documents, happened to be “Ye Ye.” It was reportedly listed in the “Statement of Information.” This provides updated business details, the type of industry, directors, officers, and office address.
Page Six noted that West first announced in 2018 that he wanted to start going by “Ye.” He wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter), “the being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE.” This was followed by the filing of legal paperwork in 2021 to officially switch his birth name, Kanye Omari West, to the new moniker. The singer cited “personal reasons” to make the name change permanent.
Despite the official change, Ye has continued to be referred to by his former name, Kanye West.
