Why Is There No Love Island USA on Wednesday?

Yes, Love Island USA has completely taken over our lives. With as much time as we’ve spent streaming the show, it feels like we’re basically in the villa, too.

The show airs every single day, except Wednesdays, so when Hump Day rolls around, we’re left struggling to figure out what to do with our lives without Ariana Madix and the Islanders. But have you ever wondered why the show doesn’t air on Wednesdays of all days?

In typical television programming, Friday nights are when new TV shows don’t air. They call it the “death slot” because of the notorious low viewership that comes with the timeslot. With that in mind, why did Love Island settle on Wednesdays for their off day instead of Fridays?

There isn’t a definitive answer as to why Love Island USA doesn’t stream new episodes on Wednesdays, but it’s likely to give cast and crew some time to relax, as the show streams new episodes every other day of the week, including weekends.

Most reality shows take months between filming, editing, and releasing the series. With Love Island USA’s action happening almost simultaneously with the episodes becoming available, it makes sense that the production crew would need a day off to recuperate. There are also these little things called labor laws that prevent the cast and crew from truly being “on” 24/7.

The Wednesday off is also handy for fans struggling to keep up with the commitment that is Love Island. Having a day off in the middle of the week gives you the time you need to catch up on any episodes that you missed. Plus, the powers that be at Peacock don’t want you to get too far behind, or else you’ll miss the opportunity to cast those all-important votes.

If Wednesday arrives and you are all caught up on Love Island USA, don’t fret. Peacock has plenty of other dating shows to dip your toes into. There’s Queen’s Court, which will soon have a spinoff coming to Bravo. Plus, there’s the Real Housewives dating show called Love Hotel available to stream in its entirety. Surely that will hold you over until Thursday night with the villa reopens.

Love Island USA continues on Peacock every day except Wednesdays.
