Sunday’s episode of Love Island USA left fans stunned. The July 22 episode featured a surprise twist that required the islanders to eliminate one woman and one man. The “safe” girls chose to boot Hannah Fields and save Iris Kendall and Amaya Espinal. While Hannah’s elimination was heartbreaking, the most controversial moment of the night was when the “safe” boys chose to eliminate OG islander Jeremiah Brown over bombshell Pepe Garcia. The decision shocked fans and caused quite a stir on social media. Many fans felt that Jeremiah deserved to stay; others supported the boys’ decision to separate Jeremiah and Huda Mustafa.
Jeremiah’s absence will not go unnoticed. In fact, it may usher in a whole new vibe in the villa. Here’s why Jeremiah’s exit could shake things up.
Jeremiah Brown and Hannah Fields were eliminated from Love Island USA Season 7
Season 7 of Love Island USA is starting to feel a little like Survivor. The islanders are continuously tasked with voting off one of their castmates, and the logic behind their decisions is becoming more and more difficult to parse. I don’t understand why the girls chose to get rid of Hannah, who has a pretty strong connection with Pepe, over someone with a less developed connection. Isn’t this show about finding love?
The boys’ decision to boot Jeremiah is also a bit perplexing, but for a different reason. At the time of his elimination, Jeremiah did not have a strong connection. He was in a friendship-coupling with Iris, and he was slowly developing a connection with the new bombshell, Andreina Santos. It makes sense to eliminate him based on his current status. However, if I’ve learned one thing about Love Island USA, it is that the OGs are blindly loyal to each other. It’s why the girls chose to save Huda time and time again. Apparently, Jeremiah did not make the same impression on the male OGs.
How Love Island USA could change after Jeremiah Brown was sent home
Jeremiah’s exit will no doubt have an impact on the Villa. Huda is finally free to flirt and mingle without her “ex” hanging around, Iris is freed from her loveless coupling, and Ace Greene has to find a new rival. His exit may be the reset this season needs. Huda wants to explore a new connection, but Jeremiah’s presence in the Villa made that difficult. I wanted to believe she could leave that romance in the past, but I’ll be honest, I didn’t have much faith in her. I worried she would continuously abandon new connections and try to win back Jeremiah. She may actually move on now that he is not in the Villa.
Jeremiah’s exit closes the chapter on Huda’s crash out, but it may also usher in some new drama. Jeremiah was getting to know the new bombshell, Andreina. It appeared she may choose him at the next recoupling. But now that he’s gone, everyone’s an option. She may choose a man in an established couple, which will cause mayhem in the Villa.
Was Jeremiah Brown an all-time Love Island USA great?
Love him or hate him, Jeremiah made great TV. Sure, his toxic relationship with Huda was hard to watch at times, but it was also the most interesting drama this season. Was he there for love? Was he there for money? Honestly, I have no idea, but that’s what made him intriguing. Jeremiah could’ve been one of the Love Island greats but he made one grave error. He locked in with Huda too quickly and failed to develop other connections. His cast mates and fans at home questioned his intentions, wondering if he was trying to game the system. He may have found more success in the Villa if he didn’t come in so hot.
Despite the hiccup, I think Jeremiah should be proud of his performance on Season 7 of Love Island USA. He definitely made his mark on the season and he has a lot of fans in his corner. I’ll be interested to see where he goes from here.
