Justin Baldoni recently pulled a surprising move in his legal battle against Blake Lively, weeks after his $400 million countersuit dismissal. PEOPLE learned that he won’t amend and refile the claims from his suit against his co-star and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, in connection with the “It Ends With Us” lawsuit drama.
The actor-director’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, said they would instead be “pursuing additional legal options that are available to us.” His team was reportedly due to revise the claims on Monday, June 23.
Justin Baldoni remains firm on Blake Lively claims in countersuit, lawyer says
Despite his countersuit dismissal, Justin Baldoni reportedly remains firm on his claims in his legal battle against Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. His lawyer, Bryan Freedman, informed PEOPLE that they won’t submit any amendments concerning the breach of implied covenant and tortious interference with contract claims he made in his countersuit, which Judge Lewis J. Liman dismissed two weeks ago. However, Judge Liman had noted they could file their revised claims by Monday.
Freedman told the outlet in a statement that Baldoni’s lawsuit dismissal had “no effect whatsoever on the truth.” He vehemently denied the harassment and smear campaign allegations that Lively made in her December lawsuit against the actor-director. The attorney further highlighted that the court’s decision to dismiss didn’t “affect our vigorous defense against” her claims.
Justin Baldoni’s team confirmed their decision to proceed with the countersuit. In addition, Freedman claimed in his statement that they are “confident” about prevailing “against these factually baseless accusations.” He then informed that they would “be pursuing additional legal options that are available to us” instead of revising the claims.
Only last week, Baldoni bagged a massive victory after Judge Lewis J. Liman dismissed Lively’s motion for a protective order. She had reportedly aimed to block his attempts to secure her and Taylor Swift’s text messages, claiming these communications were “irrelevant” to the case. In a response filing, his team argued the relevance of these exchanges, suggesting that the messages could prove crucial in disproving her allegations.
