Love Island USA is the kind of show you love to hate watch. Personally, I don’t understand how a group of 20-somethings who all lead with their tongues when they kiss are taking the reality TV world by storm. But here I am, sucked into the series as much as the next person. However, Cierra Ortega has been on my radar for all the wrong reasons. And finally, in the last episode, she was kicked off the series. Here’s what we know.
Why did Cierra Ortega leave Love Island USA?
Love Island USA contestant Cierra Ortega was exposed as using a slur offensive to Asian people on social media.
On last night’s recoupling episode of Love Island USA, the narrator noted that Cierra had left the villa “for personal reasons” after old social media posts emerged online. But most followers had already figured out that the 25-year-old influencer was going to be axed for her racist comments.
Recently, a video from 2015 resurfaced showing Cierra talking about Botox where she made derogatory comments about Chinese people. She wrote, “Botox isn’t for everyone but I love it for me!!! I can also be a little c****y when i laugh/smile so I love getting a mini brow lift.”
After she was noticeably missing from the villa, Cierra’s parents posted an Instagram Story. They wrote that their daughter had received “cruel messages” and described the backlash as “one of the most painful weeks of our lives.” The message also added that Cierra didn’t deserve the hate.
They wrote, “We’re not here to justify or ignore what’s surfaced. We understand why people are upset, and we know accountability matters. But what’s happening online right now has gone far beyond that. No one deserves that kind of hate, no matter what mistakes they’ve made.”
According to Cierra’s parents, she “still hasn’t had the chance to process any of this or speak for herself. When she returns, we believe she’ll face this with honesty, growth, and grace. Until then, we’re simply asking for compassion. For patience. For basic human decency.”
