Gwyneth Paltrow allegedly had a rather sharp nickname for her former friend and “Stranger Things” actor Winona Ryder. Author and journalist Amy Odell shared more about their feud in the bombshell book about the “Goop” founder, “Gwyneth: The Biography.” Among the many striking revelations was one in which Paltrow once gave Ryder the nickname “Vagina Ryder” as their friendship soured over growing suspicions and accusations.
Gwyneth Paltrow nicknamed Winona Ryder after their friendship fell through, book claims
Gwyneth Paltrow and Winona Ryder were the strongest of friends before their fallout, as per Amy Odell’s new book “Gwyneth: The Biography.” According to the author’s statements, reported by Daily Mail, Paltrow distanced herself from the “Stranger Things” star after suspecting the latter of making up false stories just to gain attention.
The biography claimed that their feud happened at a time when Paltrow was dating Ben Affleck while Ryder was dating Matt Damon. The two power couples allegedly stuck together until things took a turn for the worse. As per the book, it all began when Paltrow moved into her former friend’s house in 1997 after breaking up with her ex-fiancé, Brad Pitt.
While Paltrow allegedly wanted to seek comfort and confide in Ryder, it didn’t go over well. The biography stated that the “Beetlejuice” star left the New York City apartment after an argument with her then-boyfriend, Damon. She followed it up with a claim that she had been robbed. The incident repeated itself once again, with Ryder alleging that she had been robbed again.
Through the book, Odell claimed that while Damon was sympathetic to Ryder’s troubles, Paltrow didn’t believe her. The Oscar winner believed that her ex-pal “fabricated the robberies as a ploy for attention.” The biography also noted that there has been no proof of the same. The book further alleged, “Her friendship with Ryder would only deteriorate further, and Gwyneth gave her the nickname ‘Vagina Ryder.'”
In “Gwyneth: The Biography,” Odell claimed that Paltrow stole the lead role in “Shakespeare in Love” from Ryder after initially turning it down. The actor went on to win the Oscar for Best Actress for her performance in the 1998 film.
In the excerpt reported by PEOPLE, the book stated that rumors about Paltrow allegedly stealing the script from Ryder’s “coffee table” spread through the media. Paltrow denied them, reportedly claiming it was Ryder who started the rumor.
