Just a week after his passing, WWE icon Hulk Hogan’s official cause of death has been revealed.
On July 24, The Hulkster (real name Terry Bollea), suddenly collapsed at his home in Clearwater, Florida. He was taken by ambulance to Morton Plant Hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead. He was 71.
What was Hulk Hogan’s cause of death?
Hulk Hogan’s cause of death was acute myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack.
Acute myocardial infarction happens when blood flow to the heart muscle is suddenly blocked, causing tissue damage.
Not only is Page Six confirming his cause of death, but they also obtained documents revealing other health problems. Hulk had a history of atrial fibrillation (AFib), characterized by an irregular and often rapid heart rate. Additionally, the WWE Hall of Famer also fought leukemia CLL, a type of cancer that affects white blood cells called lymphocytes. Neither diagnosis was previously public knowledge.
Following weeks of speculation over his failing health, the six-time WWE Champion underwent neck surgery in May. At the time, his wife Sky Daily tried to calm anxious fans with a July 12 social media post. “He’s definitely not in a coma!” she wrote. “His heart is strong, and there was never any lack of oxygen or brain damage … He’s healing and we’re taking it one day at a time with love, strength, and patience.”
Despite the public denials, a source close to the family revealed that Hulk’s heart was deteriorating. “He was suffering from shortness of breath, got tired easily, had lost a lot of weight and was on oxygen,” the insider told the Daily Mail.
Since his passing, his loved ones have issued public statements about their tragic loss. His wife Sky wrote on Instagram that her heart was “in pieces.”
Son Nick Hogan also paid tribute to his “best friend” via Instagram. “Thank you for being the best dad in the world and thank you for being my best friend,” he shared. “I love you so much Big Dog and I will miss you forever.”
Even though the Hogan Knows Best alum and his daughter were estranged in recent years, Brooke Hogan, she insisted that their bond “has never broken.”
“When he left this earth, it felt like part of my spirit left with him,” she wrote. “I’m deeply grateful for the love, tributes, and memorials from his fans and friends. His life was one worth celebrating — and always will be.”
Possibly the hardest hit, aside from his current wife Sky, was the wrestler’s ex-wife Linda Hogan. Although they divorced in 2009 following 26 years of marriage, she claimed she never “got over him.”
“It’s so hard to know he’s just gone,” she wrote in her own lengthy Instagram tribute. “I tried to stay strong for Nick … but I’m melting down now. “It’s very sad. I love you Hulkster.”
