Sydney Sweeney’s German Shepherd Faces Trolling Amid Ad Controversy

As Sydney Sweeney continues to battle the controversy that has followed her ad collaboration with American Eagle, she has been hit with yet another wave of criticism, this time aimed at her beloved German Shepherd. The 27-year-old actress recently took to social media to share a short clip of herself and her pet dog, which has since garnered overly negative comments from several people on the internet.

Why is Sydney Sweeney’s dog getting trolled?

Around two weeks ago, the Anyone But You star shared a post on social media, featuring her red-and-black German Shepherd rescue dog, Sully Bear.

In the brief Instagram video, Sydney Sweeney shares some quality time with her pet on a boat. However, this harmless post has since attracted hate from several Instagram users. They have targeted Sweeney, as well as her dog, over her controversial American Eagle advertisements.

With German Shepherds sharing an unfortunate association with the Nazi regime of the 1940s, users made use of this connection to issue political comments against Sweeney. One Instagram user wrote, “Swastika Sweeney,” followed by a laughing emoji under the said post.

Meanwhile, another called her out for her Republican views, noting, “Hmm, you registered Republican recently & then made a commercial SCREAMING N@zi propaganda.” A third user also made a similar comment by writing, “That is a Nazi pet.”

Nevertheless, multiple Sydney Sweeney fans also came to the defense of the Euphoria star in the comment section of her post with her German Shepherd. One admirer wrote, “Don’t listen to the haters. People are jealous, so they do what they do best hate. It will pass be true to yourself, God bless.”

Moreover, a second fan remarked, “Sydney has great genes and haters are extremely jealous.” Additionally, a fan complimented Sweeney’s dog and wrote, “Your dog has great jeans as well.”

The backlash comes after Sydney Sweeney partnered with American Eagle to release a series of advertisements to promote the brand’s denim line. With the commercials playing with the homophonous nature of the terms ‘genes’ and ‘jeans,’ many have criticized the actress for encouraging discrimination among people with the said ads.
