Emma Stone Reveals She Cried After Going ‘Bald’

Emma Stone recently shaved off her beautiful hair for a role she is doing in Bugonia, revealing that she wears wigs now to hide her bald head. However, letting go of her tresses was also something personal for the actress and was related to her mother, causing her to cry when she shaved off her hair.

The La La Land star is no stranger to going to extreme lengths for roles, and is once again going to collaborate with filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos in Bugonia.

In the film, Emma Stone plays a pharmaceutical CEO who is kidnapped by conspiracy theorists. However, they decide to shave her hair off to conceal her identity. While the actress previously told Vogue that going bald was an amazing feeling, she revealed that it was an emotional moment for her because it reminded her of her mother, Krista.

Stone admitted that she cried before shaving off her hair because it reminded her of her mother undergoing cancer treatment. The latter also lost all her hair when fighting breast cancer. Stone said of her mother, “She actually did something brave…I’m just shaving my head.”

Hence, the Poor Things actress was quite emotional when she went bald for the role and even ended up crying in her trailer. However, she also jokingly shared that her mother was jealous of her new look. “My mom was like, ‘I’m so jealous. I want to shave my head again,” said Stone.

Nevertheless, the authenticity is working in the two-time Academy Award winner’s favor. Her collaborations with Lanthimos have been brilliant till now, and Bugonia could once again be an Oscar-worthy gem.

Bugonia is an English-language remake of the 2003 South Korean film Save the Green Planet! Apart from Emma Stone, the film stars Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone, among others.

The synopsis for the film reads, “Two conspiracy-obsessed young men kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth.”

Bugonia is set to premiere on October 24, 2025, in theatres.
