He may no longer be part of the Royals‘ inner circle, but that hasn’t stopped Prince Harry paying tribute to his grandfather. At the recent 80th anniversary of VJ Day, he left a poignant gift. And he reportedly had to get a bit sneaky…
Prince Harry had a friend lay out a wreath on August 15

The 80th anniversary of VJ Day took place on August 15 at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, England. The event celebrates those who served in the forces during the Second World War. While the Duke of Sussex wasn’t at the event, he made sure to leave a heartfelt tribute to his late grandfather.
GB News reports that after King Charles III and Queen Camilla left the event, a friend of Harry’s laid a wreath on his behalf. Not only that – the prince also left a poignant letter. He wrote: “For me, this anniversary carries an added layer of meaning. My late grandfather, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, served in the Pacific campaign. He spoke with quiet humility about those years, but I know how deeply he respected all who stood beside him in that theatre of war.”
Harry also recognized the sacrifices of the other veterans in attendance. He added: “I am humbled by your example, proud of your service and dedication, and profoundly grateful for what you endured. Your story is part of our shared heritage, and it must never be forgotten.”
Harry, 40, had reportedly been banned from leaving a wreath at the event due to the alleged ongoing tensions with the family. Clearly, he felt the event was too important to ignore. This could be in part because of his own history – he served in the British Army for 10 years.
