Sydney Sweeney recently sat down for an interview with The Wall Street Journal, following one small controversy and one large one, the latter being the American Eagle advertisement. In what was her first public interview since the divisive ad that drew significant backlash, the Euphoria actress refused to discuss it. This has raised some eyebrows all around.
Sydney Sweeney still has nothing to say about jeans ad controversy
Sydney Sweeney, in her first interview since the American Eagle jeans ad controversy, remained tight-lipped about everything while speaking with The Wall Street Journal. She reportedly refused to speak about the controversial ad and did not give out any opinion every time it was brought up.
The advertisement garnered heat for its tagline “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans,” playing on the word “genes.” This brought forth a lot of criticism, as many believed that the ad was promoting white supremacy and eugenics. Even some celebrities like Doja Cat and Lizzo hit out at the ad. But it seems that there were also many supporters of the ad, including President Donald Trump.
As the world remained divided over the advertisement, the actress and the face of the ad reportedly dodged questions about it in her recent interview.
Instead, Sweeney chose to address the earlier controversy where she faced criticism for selling soap infused with her bathwater. She said that most of the criticism came from other women, effectively amplifying the backlash.
“It was mainly the girls making comments about it, which I thought was really interesting. They all loved the idea of Jacob Elordi’s bathwater,” she said about the backlash. Social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram saw a surge of comments against this.
As of now, Sweeney remains one of the most talked-about actresses in the world. It seems fans will hope to hear her take on the ad soon enough.
