By now, you’ve probably seen the shocking footage of Lil Nas X strolling around Los Angeles in nothing but his tighty whities and cowboy boots. Later that evening, he was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer and briefly hospitalized under suspicion of an overdose.

Body Language expert Joanne Pearson of British Lie Detector Test made it very clear that what we’re seeing in Lil Nas X isn’t a publicity stunt. She said the videos of him waltzing around in his underwear appear to show a young man having a genuine crisis.

“This looked less like performance and more like a nervous system in overdrive. The stripping down in public, sudden playfulness with props like the traffic cone, and then the rapid shift into confrontation are all signs of disinhibition and adrenaline-fuelled state changes, rather than controlled showmanship,” Joanne explained.

She continued, “When someone goes from playful to confrontational in seconds, you’re not seeing strategy — you’re seeing a body in fight-mode activation. A genuine publicity stunt keeps the performer in control. Here, control was missing.”

Plenty of fans on social media theorized that Lil Nas X’s behavior was drug-induced, with some folks even speculating on what type of drugs he could have been using. However, Joanne stressed that body language can’t determine intoxication, mental health status, or intent. Instead, it highlights “visible markers of overload: loss of situational awareness, rapid mood shifts, and impaired self-preservation.”

Whatever is going on with Lil Nas X, we just hope he has the support and help he needs. For now, he remains in jail awaiting a bail hearing.
