Bruce Willis retired from acting in 2022 due to his health struggles. Now it seems his condition has deteriorated. His wife, Emma Heming, has revealed the Hollywood legend lives in a separate home to that of his family.
Bruce Willis’ dementia battle is progressing
Bruce walked away from Hollywood for good in 2022 after being diagnosed with aphasia. The condition affects speech, writing and reading. A year later, the actor was also diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, a progressive neurological disorder.
Three years on, Bruce’s wife Emma Heming has given an update on his battle with the condition. In a TV special that aired on Tuesday, she said she had made the “hard decision” to move her husband to a second home, as per Page Six.
“Bruce would want that for our daughters. He would want them to be in a home that was more tailored to their needs, not his needs,” she said. Emma explained that their daughters Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11 still see their dad a lot, including visiting him for breakfast. He lives in a residence nearby, with a full-time care staff.
The TV special – “Emma and Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey – A Diane Sawyer Special” – also discussed Bruce’s current status. Emma, 49, said Bruce’s family have adapted to a “new way” of communicating with him. She explained that, while he’s still very mobile, his language skills are “going” and his brain “is failing him”.
An emotional Emma revealed that they sometimes see glimpses of Bruce’s old personality. However, she admitted it was painful, because “as quickly as those moments appear, then it goes.” She is currently promoting her book, “The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope and Yourself on the Caregiving Path.”
Bruce, 70, is also being supported by ex-wife Demi Moore and their three daughters Rumer, 37, Scout, 34, and Tallulah, 31.
