You may have thought the Ellen DeGeneres Show controversy was long dead and buried (a bit like the comedian’s career…). But new allegations from a previous staffer have shed new light on what it was really like to work with the host. Spoiler alert: not good.
The former Ellen DeGeneres Show cameraman said the host disliked male staffers
The scandal surrounding the long off-air Ellen DeGeneres Show broke five years ago. But it’s been reignited thanks to new accusations made by a cameraman who worked on the show. Speaking to the Daily Mail, the insider claimed that Ellen disliked anyone interacting with wife Portia De Rossi.
“You just hoped and prayed you weren’t seated by her wife, so you didn’t get her attention,” he said. And anyone who did set off her wrath would be given more than a warning side-eye. The cameraman described Ellen’s mean stare as being like a “queen looking for her next execution.”
The staffer also alleged that Ellen “really didn’t like guys,” causing the show to go “through a lot of male employees just in general.”
One famous guy who allegedly upset the comedian was none other than sweary British chef, Gordon Ramsay. The cameraman described an episode where the TV chef poked fun of Ellen for using old meat during a demonstration. She apparently didn’t see the funny side, allegedly telling her crew, “Don’t let this guy on the show again”.
Another example of toxicity behind the scenes involved a colleague with a sick child. The source claimed the staffer was forced to reschedule a “major surgery” for their child at the bequest of higher ups on the show. It’s not clear whether or not Ellen was involved in the decision.
The accusations come at a pretty bad time for Ellen, as she is reportedly trying to rebuild her TV career.
