Colman Domingo has responded to the backlash over his dragged up appearance in Sabrina Carpenter‘s new music video. The actor replied to an angry X user at the weekend to defend his appearance in the clip. And he is as unbothered as he is flawless in makeup and heels.
Colman Domingo says “we’re all born naked and the rest is drag”
Believe it or not, the sight of a man in drag is still an outrage to some corners of the internet. And you can bet those pearl-clutchers were triggered by Colman Domingo’s cameo in Sabrina Carpenter’s new music video.
One angry commenter ranted: “Hollywood ain’t sh*t. Colman Domingo is a solid actor. He’s gay as well so I figured he’d be highly backed. But nope! Guess he was too manly even for a gay man. Had to put him in drag in Sabrina carpenter’s video huh? Bullshit!”
Colman replied to the comment: “It’s a character. Like all the characters I play. Calm down brother. Enjoy the video and the fun that it possesses. Dance it out! It ain’t that deep.” He added a quote from RuPaul: “we are born naked and everything else is drag”.
The Euphoria star dons a series of fab-u-lous outfits in the video, including a latex corset and a red bodysuit. The video for Sabrina’s latest single Tears is a clear homage to the The Rocky Horror Picture Show, with Colman playing a Frank-N-Furter-inspired character. The video has amassed more than 25 million views on YouTube so far.
The actor doesn’t need to sweat the haters. He has a packed slate of upcoming projects, including the highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic, a Nat King Cole biopic, and an as yet untitled Steven Spielberg movie.
