A former first-round NFL draft pick will have to revisit his past actions in court. Jay Cutler retired from football after 12 seasons with the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins.
Lately, the 11th overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons. He was arrested in October 2024 for driving while intoxicated, with reports suggesting he tried to flee the scene.
Nearly a year after that incident, Jay could face further consequences for his actions.
Jay Cutler pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in October 2024, and now he’s being sued

Last month, Jay was sentenced to four days in prison, entering a guilty plea as part of the deal. His driver’s licence was revoked while he was placed on unsupervised probation for a year.
On September 2nd the 42-year-old was hit with a lawsuit from the driver of the other vehicle. Perry Lee claims that Jay was at “fault for the collision. Because of the incident, Perry says that he’s had unexpected medical bills while enduring “physical pain and mental suffering,” per the lawsuit revealed to People.
Unfortunately, that is far from the end of Perry’s issues. He alleges to have “suffered lost wages, loss of earning capacity, or other out-of-pocket expenses, or some combination thereof, as a direct and proximate result of the collision.”
“Our client is a veteran who was injured in a car crash due to the alleged negligence of another driver,” his lawyer, Sydney Pierce, said in a statement along with Morgan and Morgan founder John Morgan.
“His injuries from the crash cause him daily pain and have eroded his quality of life. We are seeking justice for him so he can get the care he needs and try to move forward with his life.”
At the time of the collision, Jay allegedly had two firearms in his vehicle, including a loaded gun. His possession of a handgun charge was dropped following his guilty plea to DUI. Perry claims that the former Pro Bowl quarterback offered him $2,000 not to involve the police. Perry is seeking compensation damages in excess of $25,000.
Jay will begin his prison sentence on September 29.
