Hot mics, car crashes, and an FBI investigation — Season 2 of The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys was jam-packed with shocking moments. It made this little show out of the Midwest one of Bravo’s must-watch shows this summer. Despite all the season’s craziness and the wild cast of characters, a Bravo executive recently named Jesse McBee as the person who surprised them the most. Here’s why.
Jesse McBee was “vulnerable and honest” on McBee Dynasty Season 2
Kathleen French, Senior Vice President of Entertainment Unscripted Current Production at NBCUniversal, spoke to Bravo’s The Daily Dish about Season 2 of The McBee Dynasty. She gave the rundown of what we missed when Galyna Saltkovska got in that accident. But she also dished on some of the emotional moments we saw from Jesse throughout the season.
Specifically, Kathleen called out the scene from Season 2 Episode 8, where Jesse navigated some pre-wedding jitters. He wound up having a full-blown anxiety attack while in the middle of a harvest. The way he navigated it left Kathleen feeling impressed.
“He was so open and honest about his fears when he started having panic attacks before the wedding,” Kathleen recalled. “Having an honest conversation with his then-fiancée, now wife, about, ‘I’m having second thoughts here,’ I thought that was kind of amazing.”
Kathleen also felt amazed by how Jesse communicated his feelings to his brothers. In a world where most guys are afraid to show emotion, Kathleen found it special to see how Jesse navigated his feelings. She also found it remarkable that his brothers were so receptive to hearing about what was on his heart.
“He actually cried on camera to his brother,” Kathleen added. “I mean, these are hard-core farmers who have calluses on their hands. And I thought he was vulnerable and honest.”
“His brothers reacted in kind,” she continued. “They were like, ‘Oh my god, this is really serious.’ And there was no like, ‘Oh, suck it up, let’s go.’ It was more like, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re really in crisis. How can we help?’”
The McBee Dynasty hasn’t officially been picked up for a third season, but with the praise they’ve received from the Bravo execs, it seems pretty likely that they’ll be back for another round of episodes. Plus, we’re bound to see more of Jesse’s big, raw emotion after his father’s upcoming sentencing hearing. If he felt this emotional over a wedding, imagine how he’ll react to his dad going to prison for a fraud scheme.
