Sabrina Carpenter has once again referenced an iconic style from the music world by wearing a lingerie-inspired look, complete with a bedazzled bra, resembling Britney Spears from a famous 2001 Dream Within a Dream Tour. Carpenter is renowned for pulling off these references, and she did it again at the 2025 MTV VMAs during her performance of “Tears.”

Sabrina Carpenter treated her fans to a pleasant surprise at the 2025 MTV VMAs, as she sported an outfit resembling Bob Mackie’s diamond bra top worn by Britney Spears on her 2001 Dream Within a Dream Tour.
During the September 7, 2025, show, Carpenter started her performance wearing an embellished fringe top paired with a miniskirt. But she changed the outfit mid-dance and revealed herself wearing a bedazzled bra halter top with shorts. Many fans and news outlets saw the similarity between this and the iconic Britney Spears look.
Apart from this look, Carpenter had many more sets for the night. She appeared in a total of four outfits. The 26-year-old started the night with a see-through net red custom Valentino gown and later changed to a black corset dress. She also took on the two other outfits, one resembling Britney Spears.
Prior to this, she had also worn a 2003 lingerie look modeled by Naomi Campbell in one of her music videos, further establishing her style of referencing vintage fashion and musicians.
Britney Spears, meanwhile, was last seen at the VMAs back in 2016. There were rumors surrounding a comeback, but it does not seem likely that she will appear on the show anytime soon. Spears has quite a history with the VMAs, with one of her performances in 2007 being the subject of a lot of discussions.
