If you’re a celeb undergoing a controversial medical treatment, it’s probably best to keep it on the down low. Kim Kardashian and Khloé Kardashian clearly didn’t get the memo. The pair are in hot water for traveling abroad for an “experimental” procedure.
Kim and Khloé Kardashian traveled to Mexico for surgery outlawed in the United States
Another day, another scandal for the Kardashians. This time, Kim and Khloé are facing criticism for their promotion of Muse stem cell treatments. This type of procedure is illegal in the U.S., leading the pair to travel to Mexico for their fix.
The sisters both posted about the treatment on their social media. They visited a clinic run by Canadian doctor Adeel Khan. Kim said she’d previously used stem cell therapy to treat shoulder pain. This time, she was seeking some help with back pain. She wrote on Instagram: “The Muse stem cell treatment was a game-changer once again. I experienced relief right away, and the unbearable pain is finally gone.”
Sure, the treatment sounds great. But it’s actually considered experimental by many medical experts and hasn’t gained approval from the US Food and Drug Administration due to concerns about its safety.
Khloé recently opened up about the cosmetic procedures she’s had. While she’s been praised for her transparency in that regard, experts have deemed the sisters’ endorsement of these stem cell treatments as irresponsible.
A medical insider told Radar Online: “Regulators are especially worried because these therapies are not subject to the same scrutiny outside the US.” The source added: “Seeing celebrities post about it creates an illusion of safety that simply isn’t there.”
This is just the latest in a long line of recent controversies for Kim. Only a week ago she faced scrutiny for allowing daughter North to get a dangerous hand piercing.
