Ego Nwodim has been a cast member on Saturday Night Live since 2018. Over the last several years, Ego has come into her own on the show. Her characters dominated sketches each night. Some of her most beloved performances on the show include her Dionne Warwick impression and the infamous Lisa from Temecula. Dionne herself was so inspired by Ego’s work that she not only posted to X about it, but made a cameo on the show alongside Ego. It was an iconic moment that will go down in SNL history.
Her performances week after week on SNL quickly made her a fan favorite. She landed several commercials and worked outside of the sketch program. Sadly, she shared that she will be exiting the show ahead of its 51st season. Fans were devastated to hear the news.
SNL fans aren’t happy Ego Nwodim is leaving the show
Ego took to Instagram to share the news that she was stepping away from Saturday Night Live. She wrote, “The hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight. But after seven unforgettable seasons, I have decided to leave SNL.” She continued to thank the writers, cast members, and, of course, the show’s creator, Lorne Michaels. She said how much she had grown by taking the stage week after week. Ego signed off by telling everyone to invite her to their weddings.
As expected, fans were devastated by the news that she was leaving. Even celebrities were commenting on her post about their heartbreak. “Omg why is everyone leaving SNL all of the sudden? This diva used to carry so much on her back,” wrote a fan on X. Another penned, “Noooo!!! That sucks! She was hilarious on SNL.”
On Instagram, her former colleagues were singing her praises in the comment section. Cecily Strong said, “I just texted you, but I also want to say it loud and proud here: it was an honor and total joy to get to work with you. One of the best to ever do it.”
