Prince Harry’s brief reconciliation with the royal family came about when he met King Charles last week. The meeting — first in nearly 19 months — has sparked renewed debate over Harry’s motives. While some believe the reunion signals new beginnings for Harry’s relationship with the royal family, royal experts claim the gesture is less about personal connection and more of a “PR move.”
Prince Harry needs King Charles for ‘people to see him as the son of a king,’ expert claims
Prince Harry has voiced his hopes for a reconciliation with the royal family, and his recent 54-minute meeting with King Charles seemed like a step in that direction. According to The Sun UK, many viewed the reunion as an emotional moment, but there were skeptics who speculated about Harry’s intention in the process.
Royal expert and biographer Ingrid Seward suggested there was more strategy than sentiment behind the reunion. Speaking to The Sun, she said, “I think it’s a massive PR move to re-establish Harry in the hearts of the British people. Harry needs the stardust of his father. He needs people to see him as the son of a king.”
According to Seward, “His earning power is related to who he is. Without being the royal he is, Harry would not be interested to anyone in California.” She further explained, “But because he is the son of a king, and the brother of an heir to the throne, he is of great interest and he needs that connection.” Moreover, the expert argued, “This is a big, big PR push, and Harry was finally all smiles and charm, reminiscent of himself of old.”
While Harry has insisted that his controversial memoir, “Spare,” was written with a “clear conscience,” Seward disagreed. She said, “You don’t badmouth your family in print and then have a clear conscience.” Despite reported tensions within the royal family, she noted King Charles appeared willing to keep communication open. Seward explained, “At least Charles can then keep an eye on what he’s doing as well.”
Prince Harry’s meeting with King Charles marks a possibility of reconciliation with the royal family. However, experts believe its impact will be closely tied to various personal and public factors.
