Ed Sheeran Reveals Honest Reason He Refused Offer To Perform ‘The First Gig in Space’

Ed Sheeran recently revealed he was offered a job that was out of this world. The singer said he was offered the chance to play a concert in space. While many of us would probably jump at the chance (that’s gotta come with a hefty fee), Ed turned it down. And his reasoning was surprisingly relatable.

Ed Sheeran says space “terrifies” him

During an appearance on the BBC’s Scott Mills radio show, Ed mentioned he’d been offered the chance to play a gig in space. Joking that he probably wasn’t the only one to receive the email, the singer-songwriter said he’d never agree to it.

He explained: “I don’t want to be a guinea pig for that, because it still is dangerous. There’s places on this planet that I haven’t been to, I’ve never been to Greenland, I would love to go to Greenland, there’s places on this planet I would far rather go to than space.”

Stating that the idea “terrifies” him, he added: “Mate, I ain’t doing it, I’ve got kids. I’m not going to risk that for a Guinness World Record something or other. I’m not going to risk my kids not having a dad.”

Perhaps the concert organizers should reach out to Katy Perry, who had no issues with performing in space.

While outer space is understandably a step too far for Ed, the singer does have plans to expand his horizons. He recently revealed he and his family are moving to the US. He and wife Cherry Seaborn have two daughters. The Shape of You singer opened up to James Corden on the The Late Late Show about how fatherhood has changed his life.

He said: “I became a dad and I feel like my lifestyle shift has changed. Instead of going to bed at six [a.m.], I’m getting up at four. It just feels like what life was meant to be. It’s great. I’m healthier than I’ve ever been.”
