Marlon Wayans Says ‘Every American Loses’ With Jimmy Kimmel’s Cancelation

Another late night talk show host has lost his job, Jimmy Kimmel. On September 17, Jimmy Kimmel Live! was pulled off the air “indefinitely” (aka canceled) following the host’s comments on the death of Charlie Kirk. A fixture on ABC for over two decades, Jimmy and his sarcastic humor will be missed.

Actor Marlon Wayans has something to say about that.

Marlon Wayans thinks it’s “a shame” Jimmy Kimmel’s show has been taken off the air

At the premiere of his new thriller Him, Marlon spoke with Access Hollywood, reacting to the news of Jimmy’s cancelation. “This is America,” he said. “What we’re seeing is not something that we – me, myself as a black man has seen before … I just think it’s a shame, and I think every last single American loses because of this.”

“But … it’s not an ending [for] guys and artists and voices like Jimmy Kimmel,” he added. “We have to be courageous, and it’s a new beginning. You can’t stop the dunk. You just made me create a new lane. That’s all.”

Turning the conversation to Marlon’s new movie, the host switched gears. “I love seeing you play the horror space,” he said. “I look at you as being comedic, but you are a well-rounded, talented actor … Did you give [costar Tyriq Withers] any kind of advice for fame coming up, because you’ve been in this industry for a minute?”

“I gave his little, stupid ass some advice,” Marlon joked. “He’s talking about what kind of car he wants to buy. I said, ‘Man, you better stay in that little raggedy car you got till you get some real money.’ [He’s] like, ‘I want five cars.’ Why? You got one ass.'”

Going back to the movie he’s promoting, Marlon spoke of his love of unusual characters. “I always love dark characters with a sense of humor,” he said. “I grew up on Freddy Krueger … I’d love to reboot Freddy.”

Meanwhile, in his new film Marlon plays a football player. When asked how he got in shape for the roll, the actor responded, “I worked with two great trainers, CJ Fit in New Mexico and Adam Quinter, aka The Guru … Adam got me mentally ready, a lot of mental preparation … I did a whole lot of therapy, … breathing exercises, a lot of walking and then weight training.”

But when it came down to it, the Wayans Brothers alum felt it was all about “owning the spirit of the character.”
