Jimmy Kimmel may have his late night talk show put back on air – if he agrees to a list of demands. The star had his show canceled “indefinitely” this week following comments he made about the shooting of Charlie Kirk. Now, ABC affiliate Sinclair has lined out a series of requirements before Jimmy can be forgiven for his “deeply insensitive” remarks.
ABC affiliate Sinclair wants Jimmy Kimmel to apologize and donate to Charlie Kirk’s family
Sinclair is the largest ABC affiliate group, so its demands carry a lot of weight. The media company issued a press release on Wednesday calling Jimmy’s comments “inappropriate and deeply insensitive”. It added: “We believe broadcasters have a responsibility to educate and elevate respectful, constructive dialogue in our communities.”
The broadcast company didn’t stop at condemning the talk show host’s comments. It set out a number of demands before Jimmy can have his show put back on air. First, “formal discussions” must be held “regarding the network’s commitment to professionalism and accountability.”
The company also wants Jimmy to “issue a direct apology to the Kirk family.” Finally, he needs to make a “meaningful personal donation to the Kirk Family and Turning Point USA.” Turning Point is the organization Charlie Kirk co-founded, which aims to spread conservative messages at high schools and universities.
Sinclair also revealed that its ABC stations in 30 US locations will be airing a “special in remembrance” of Charlie Kirk to replace Jimmy’s show on Friday.
Reports suggest that Jimmy may be ready to turn his back on ABC for good following the drama.
